Shadow Eyes by Dusty Crabtree

Dusty Crabtree
Today we have special guest Dusty Crabtree, the author of Shadow Eyes, here with us today!

About the Author: Dusty Crabtree has been a high school English teacher since 2006, a challenge she thoroughly enjoys. She is also a youth sponsor at Cherokee Hills Christian Church in Oklahoma City and feels very blessed with the amazing opportunities she has to develop meaningful relationships with teens on a daily basis. She resides with her husband, Clayton, in Yukon, Oklahoma, where they often serve their community as
foster parents. Apart from the obvious reading and writing, she also enjoys serving on the praise team and drama team at church and watching movies. Shadow Eyes is Dusty’s first novel, but there will definitely be more to come!

Welcome! I’m so excited to be interviewing you!
Please share with us one fact about you that not many people know. And free to have fun with the question!

Ahem…My name is Dusty Crabtree and I have a mild case of OCD. Everything on my desk at work (I’m a teacher) has to be in its rightful spot, I rearrange things all the time around my house, sometimes without even realizing it, and I get called on it, and the other day I initialed by something in red pen…then realized all the other initials were in black pen…so I wrote over mine with black - not because I wanted to fit in, mind you, but because the random red ink that stood out was bothering me. Lol! My main character may or may not have similar traits…

Which fictional literary character most inspired/inspires you?

Goodness, there are so many strong literary characters in my genre! It’s hard, but I would probably pick one of the female protagonists from one of my favorite series – either Katniss (Hunger Games) for her inner strength, independence, and loyalty or Tris (Divergent) for her courage, drive, and kick-butt-ness! Oddly enough, though, because of the way the plot in Shadow Eyes unfolds, my protagonist takes a while to find her inner strength.

What book(s) are you reading, or have read lately?

I finished Rapture (the last of the Fallen series) recently and was sad to see the series end, but it was great! The most recent book I read, though, was another Musa book, Daughter of Earth and Sky, the sequel to Persephone. Awesome series that kind of combines mythology and urban fantasy! I’m really itching to read Finale (last of the Hush Hush series) next! Then it’s The Mark of Athena!

What piece of writing advice have you received that was most helpful to you?

Don’t feel bad about spending time writing. Of course, it’s hard to juggle everything in your life as a writer, especially when you have a normal job like me, but if you’re a true writer, you just have to give yourself the time to pursue your passion…and get the story written!

Where can readers connect with you?

I love talking with people about books, whether it’s mine or not, so hit me up!

Shadow EyesHere's the Blurb for Shadow Eyes:

Iris Kohl lives in a world populated by murky shadows that surround, harass, and entice unsuspecting individuals toward evil. But she is the only one who can see them. She’s had this ability to see the shadows, as well as brilliantly glowing light figures, ever since an obscure, tragic incident on her fourteenth birthday three years earlier.

Although she’s learned to cope, the view of her world begins to shift upon the arrival of three mysterious characters. First, a handsome new teacher whose presence scares away shadows; second, a new friend with an awe-inspiring aura; and third, a mysterious and alluring new student whom Iris has a hard time resisting despite already having a boyfriend.

As the shadows invade and terrorize her own life and family, she must ultimately revisit the most horrific event of her life in order to learn her true identity and become the hero she was meant to be.
