Merrill Krause is a young woman used to hardwork, as the daughter of an Icecutter, she is used to keeping up with her father and brothers.
When Rurik Jorgenson comes to town he falls for Merrill, but he finds himself unable to declare his feelings when he becomes entrapped by Svea, who claims to be carrying his child.
Can love win when all around it is winter?
A bit slow to start, this story was set in the beautiful, frozen winter of Minnesota. The story eventually escalated as more and more threads came together, with some great plot twists.
Rurik was a great hero, who was willing to quietly stand his ground while his name was being slandered. And it was fun seeing Merrill interact with her brothers and her relationship with her father come to an understanding.
Overall, this isn't your typical romance, because Merrill and Rurik really couldn't talk to each other that much because of the circumstances, but instead of focusing on just one relationship it focused on multiple non-romantic relationships, that gave this story a heart-warming feel to it. A lovely winter read.
