My Review:
Over the last few months I'd been pondering trying to eat healthier, cutting out unnecessary sugars and trying to gain more nutritional value from actual food. I had head about THM from many of my friends, many of whom swear by it. So when I saw this cookbook for review I knew that I had to give it a shot!
After reading through this book I became aware that the plan is not included in this book but in a second one, so this review is based off of just reading this specific book and trying some of the recipes.
One of the things that I really liked was how this book talked alot about getting more nutrients into one's diet, and cutting out things like white flour and sugar, but it's OK to cheat a little too. I felt like the idea was to promote a healthier more nutrient filled diet, the food is meant to be satisfying, as in filling, and also great for the tastebuds.
What I really liked about this book was how it taught me how to flavor things, I've always wanted to learn to use and combine spices, but I've never quite mastered it, but following the directions of this book led to great flavorful meals. I noticed in the week that I ate from the cookbook that I felt more energized and less weighed down by gross greasy foods. And on the day that I went out with a friend for icecream, that I could clearly feel the difference in my body, and how I felt afterwards--more sluggish and my stomach felt "heavier." I felt like I had become more sensitive and could more easily feel the different in how I felt after eating.
This was a great recipes book because it shows that you don't have to sacrifice flavor at all! Everything that I tried was, in fact, actually more flavorful than what I normally would eat. I was also glad that I didn't have to cut out dairy, and that some of their recipes include actual real cheese--knowing that cheese and dairy products weren't completely forbidden made me more comfortable with the recipes.
The recipes that we tried were: Sweet Potato Oat Soup, Taco Time, and Cry-No More Brownies. All of them turned out great, and are recipes that I will definitely repeat.
Overall, a nice cookbook with great nutritious and healthy recipes, bursting with flavor and at times interesting ingredients. I look forward to trying more recipes in the future--though I would warn people that most of the recipes include ingredients that are not always on hand in most homes, so I had to run to the store before I could try some of them. I am very interested in looking into the actual plan now, to see if it is doable. This book is a great resource for eating healthier, and while I'm not doing the plan right now, I really enjoyed the recipes, and look forward to trying more in the future :)
