If the Shoe Fits by Deborah Guarino ~ Review

My Review:

One of my favorite fairy tales growing up was Cinderella, but even more than the original classic, I loved re-tellings. So when I saw this picture book and read the description I know I'd love it, and I was not disappointed.

Cinderella's fairy godmother is in a pinch, so she enlists local cobbler, Murray to help her. Murray's long-time crush, Mona, dreams of marrying a prince and convinces Murray to make her a show like the original, but in a size nine. Can true love conquer all?

Delightfully whimsical, the story is told in poetic verse and accompanied by enchantingly whimsical, but classic illustrations that compliment the tone of the story perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed this twist on the classic tale, perfect to share with young fairy tale lovers. A clever story filled with humor, whimsy, and heart.

Amish Covert Operation by Meghan Carver ~ Review

Lucie's Review:

Katie Schwartz is a widow with two young twin girls, her brother has been a great help to her since her husband's death, but when he suddenly goes missing she finds herself in the middle of a federal investigation working with Agent Adam Troyer.

Adam Troyer's grandparents were Amish, but he grew up in a non-religious home, he admires Katie's strong faith and her strength. He wants to do all he can to protect Katie and bring back her brother safe. As they work together, they find their hearts challenged by their growing friendship and questions of faith.

Adam has seen a lot of things and grew up with his father who resented his own Amish upbringing. He is good at his job, he is dedicated to keeping Katie safe, he is respectful and curious about her faith.

Katie has lived a relatively sheltered life, she hasn't travelled much outside of her community, and is willing to everything she can to help her brother and protect her daughters. She has a strong faith, and shares what she believes with Adam.

Engaging suspense, with strong heroes and filled with faith. Good dialogue between Adam and Katie build their relationship. I enjoyed this exciting and compelling read, good plot, and high stakes. I loved how Katie and Adam make sacrifices for their loved ones, and the action packed ending.

All Manner of Things by Susie Finkbeiner ~ Review

My Review:

Susie Finkbeiner is a new author to me, so I didn't know what to expect. To be honest I almost didn't opt in to review this book, but I am so glad that I did.

It's 1967, Annie Jacobson's life is turned upside down when her older brother Mike enlists as a medic headed for Vietnam. Annie's long estranged father returns disrupting theirs lives while they are still trying to get used to Mike's absence. She and her family fight to stay strong and figure out what being a family means while they pray for Mike's safe return.

This isn't just a good book, it's the kind of book that completely absorbed me to the point where I forgot that I was reading. Annie is a compelling young woman coming of age in a tumultuous time, she tells the story through her point of view in a way that pulls you into the very book. The storytelling also includes various correspondences, some that Annie is aware of, and others that she is not, that help to fill in other areas of the story, widening it's depth.

Annie is a strong and discerning young woman, deeply loyal to her family and friends, deceptively average. All of the characters were so well developed and complex, I felt like I knew them and could see them in my mind. Mike, the All-American big brother, with a compassionate heart, who always somehow finds the right thing to say. Joel, somewhere between a boy and a man, still full of big dreams and hope. Annie's mother, Gloria, a woman who knows how to tackle a job with stiff upper lip, a fighter who will do anything for her children, but a terrible cook. Bernie, Annie's boss at the diner was probably my favorite. On the outside he is a grumpy middle aged man, devoted to his business, but he has a heart of gold and always is surprising in how he sees more than he is initially given credit for noticing. He is protective of Annie, and steps up in many ways that her father didn't, he isn't afraid to set her straight in his own blunt way. He is a godly man and his actions speak louder than his sparse words.

I loved how this book came alive for me, through the everyday struggles of life together Annie and her family learn to trust God more, it also shows how war can bring people together in odd ways through shared pain and hardship. The book breathes through the eyes of Annie, and in so many ways more is almost said in the quiet moments than in the moments of dialogue. This was a captivating read from beginning to end, I loved how the author used letters to let other characters have a turn at talking directly, and showing more of who they are. A novel that is nothing short of beautiful in its subtleties and deceptive simplicity that comes alive with complex well developed characters against a changing world. The author captured so much in little everyday, seemingly normal moments that brought tears to my eyes, I felt like I was living it right alongside Annie. I can't recommend this book enough!  A must read, that took me by surprise, riveted me to the page and didn't let go until the very end. One of my favorites this year!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Thief of Corinth by Tessa Afshar ~ Review

My Review:

Ariadne flees Athens with her adopted brother, Theo, to Corinth after years of living with her controlling mother and grandfather. Ariadne is more at ease in Corinth, yet still feels out of place at home with her father, then she discovers the secret that drove a wedge of separation between her parents.

Ariadne is loyal to her father and brothers, but she struggles to fit in with the other young women of Corinth, instead distinguishing herself as an athlete, and educating the younger girls. She is stubborn and knows her mind, she carries the burden of her broken family, and is incredibly loyal to her family. I loved her friendship with Claudia the Younger, and her devotion to her father and brothers.

Ms. Afshar brings the First Century to life, showing the customs common in Corinth and Athens at that time and the contrast that it cast with Christianity. It's so easy to not think about how different life would have been back then and what it might have been like culturally and the preconceptions they carried due to their background and worldview, Ms Afshar realistically brings that world to life so that we can understand today what they were up against.

Ms. Afshar brings the characters to life so realistically, with little details and subtle body language that gives them complexity and depth. Theo was one of my favorites, deeply bonded with Ariadne as a child, he becomes a man with a complex unknown history, beating the odds of the situation of his birth. I was thrilled to find out that the next book is his story!

Overall, a masterful tale set against First Century Corinth before Paul's visits, showing how Christ changes everything. Ariadne struggles with her burden of guilt and worthiness, along with her family's financial woes and brokenness. Ariadne is a strong heroine, stubborn, courageous, vulnerable, I connected with her instantly. The story was riveting and eye-opening, it helped me understand just a little of what First Century Corinth might have been like, I didn't want to put the book down. Filled with friendship, family, danger, drama, adventure, thrilling acts, faith, romance, and more, it is an utterly enjoyable read. Highly recommend!

Cross My Heart by Robin Lee Hatcher ~ Just Read Tour ~ Review

Welcome to the Blog Tour & Giveaway for Cross My Heart by Robin Lee Hatcher, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Title: Cross My Heart
Series: Legacy of Faith #2
Author: Robin Lee Hatcher
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date: June 25, 2019
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Split Timeline

Can two broken paths lead toward God’s redemption?

When Ashley Showalter and Ben Henning meet on Ashley’s horse rescue farm, they quickly discover how much they have in common. Both were raised by single moms. Both want to help where they see a need. And both work with horses in the Boise valley. Ben needs Ashley’s help and expertise after starting an equine therapy barn on his great-great-grandfather’s farm—and the more time they spend together, both Ashley and Ben have the feeling that there could be something more between them.

They also carry the burden of past experiences that may drive them apart if the truth is ever revealed. Ben is a recovering alcoholic with five years of sobriety behind him, while Ashley’s brother is an opioid addict residing in court-ordered rehab. Holding fast to the belief that addicts can never be cured, Ashley has promised herself she will never walk knowingly into the chaos created by addiction. Ben knows that with God, all things are possible—but will Ashley find it within herself to give love a chance? Or will her brother’s mistakes and the pain of her past jeopardize her future with Ben?

Cross My Heart threads together a contemporary love story with the heartwarming tale of Ben’s great-great-grandfather, Andrew Henning—reminding us that God’s Word is timeless and that His promises are new every morning.

Lucie's Review:

Ben Henning has a passion for helping people struggling with addiction, he is inspired by his own past to start a farm where people can work with horses as part of their therapy. Everything is falling into place the only thing is that he still needs the horses. Ben is gifted his great-grandfather's Bible, and the story also follows the great-grandfather and his children at the dawn of WWII.

Ashley Showalter has an acreage that isn't nearly big enough to house all the horses that she wants to help. She is passionate about rescuing abused and neglected horses. She agrees to keep an eye out for good horses for Ben's farm, and they can incorporate rescue horses into his farm.

The second book in a series, Ben and Ashley's story in the modern day stands well on it's own, while the parallel story of great-grandfather Andrew picks up right where the previous book in the series left off.

Ben is passionate about helping others, he had a troubled childhood laced with addictions of his own. He and his Grandfather as very close, and they go to church together every Sunday. His grandfather is wise in his faith and is excellent counsel to Ben.

I loved Ashley's willingness to help Ben and her passion for helping horses. She had a rough upbringing and has always had questions about God, as they get to know one another it opens a door for deep conversations. She had worked hard for her acerage, taught herself everything that she knows about horses. I admired her motivation and love for her family.

I also really enjoyed the continuation of Andrew Henning and his family many generations earlier. It was really cool to see him reading and praying over the very same Bible as Ben decades later. His adopted son Ben dreams of taking to the sky as a pilot, but with the war looming he knows that his son will be faced with horrors and he must trust him to God.

Overall, I loved how the two stories generations apart were told side by side, as Ben and Andrew find their faith tested. Ben's grandfather is an excellent source of wisdom and good advice, and I loved Ben and Ashley's passion for helping others through horses. Stellar storytelling, great characters, and strong faith. I really enjoyed the premise and setting, it was also great to see characters from the previous book make appearances. Definitely recommend!

He’ll do anything for his daughter…

Even fight to regain an old classmate’s broken trust.

In the three years since her mother’s death, widower Hoyt Bradley’s daughter, Jess, hasn’t spoken—until she suddenly begs him to save her favorite bookstore from closing.

Hoyt is desperate to hear his daughter’s voice again, but he and the bookstore’s pretty owner, Anna Delaney, share a less-than-friendly past.

Lucie's Review:

Hoyt Bradley hasn't heard his little girl, Jess, speak for three years since the death of his wife. But when his daughter begs him to help save her favorite bookstore, he can't refuse.

Anna returns home to care for her dying father, and after he passes she takes control of her father's struggling bookstore. She feels like her life is falling apart, but she doesn't have anything left except the store. Working together is a challenge with their less than pleasant past between them.

Hoyt and Anna though they have their differences, they share a devotion to their families. They work together to brainstorm ideas to save the bookstore, he tries to do what he can to help even though he may have bit off more than he can chew. Jess takes a liking to Anna, and is excited to help save the store.

Hoyt is an excellent father, and loves his daughter dearly. He is motivated and driven, devoted to his family. He is honorable, and wants to show Anna that he isn't the man that she perceives him to be and high school wasn't what it seemed.

Enjoyable easy to read story, I loved how Hoyt is a man of action and the setting of a small town bookstore. I admired his determination and dedication to doing the right thing. Jess is an adorable little girl with a love for reading and she has her own way of communicating with others. A charming small town romance, heartwarming and thoroughly enjoyable.

Healing the Cowboy's Heart by Ruth Logan Herne ~ Review

Lucie's Review:

Veterinarian Charlotte Fitzgerald is fresh out of school and is ready to move to Shepherd's Crossing to live on her uncle's ranch for a year in order to claim her inheritance. She dreams of being a large animal vet and has a mobile unit, the last thing wants to do is get on the wrong side of the old vet, but when a herd of neglected horses shows up she wants to fight for their wellbeing, throwing her head first into controversy.

Isaiah Wood is an Appaloosa horse breeder, he becomes Charlotte's unlikely ally when he recognizes a horse that he had raised and had thought was put down. He has a lot on his plate too, raising his niece and nephew.

Charlotte has a big heart for people and animals. She connects instantly with Isaiah's niece and nephew, helping them feel needed and valued in the wake of their tragedy. She is passionate about what she does, and works hard to care for the neglected horses. She is very clever and knows what she is doing.

Isaiah admires Charlotte's passion and devotion, as well as her care for his niece and nephew. He has big heart and believes in second chances, he has a strong faith that is a part of everything he does. He grows throughout the book bonding with the children and working alongside Charlotte.

It was fun to see multiple returning characters from previous books, I appreciated the complex storyline and relationships that were much more than I normally expect from these shorter length novels. Well developed characters, riveting plot, and a great sense of community and family despite the drama. A heartwarming read, with strong characters that you can cheer for the whole way through. A fantastic conclusion to the series, compelling and satisfying.

The Engagement Plot by Krista Phillips ~ Review

My Review:

Six months ago Will proposed to Hanna on national TV after a whirlwind of dream dates and exotic locations, then he broke her heart.

Hanna is back home in Minnesota recovering her reputation and waiting for the media to forget her name. But when a winter storm brings an unexpected guest with an unorthodox solution to both their problems--a fake engagement.

Will hasn't been able to forget about Hanna, and his company is in trouble, will they be able to help his business and fix Hanna's reputation without losing their hearts?

A delightful, delicious romp of a romantic comedy perfect for fans of reality dating shows. Hanna is struggling with the aftermath of the dating show, trying to clear her name of insinuations and misconceptions that millions were led to believe by her former fiance, Will. Hanna is a small-town girl, she is very close to her father and comes from humble seed, she is serious about her faith and her reputation. Hanna is stronger than she thinks, I admired her faith and vulnerability. I loved her friendship with Carly, everybody needs a Carly in their life!

Will is a wealthy, big city, CEO, he is drawn to Hanna because he sees something different in her. Their chemistry is amazing, as opposites who compliment each other perfectly. I especially loved how Will's parents welcomed Hanna with open arms, as well as his father's wisdom.

Overall, this was a pleasure to read, great interaction, fantastic chemistry, filled with humor, and faith. I liked how it looks at how reality shows put a lot of pressure on people and how suddenly a person's life gets thrown under a microscope with fame, as well as the courage that it takes to stay true to one's self and faith. I thought that Ms. Phillips did a great job of imagining what it might be like to have your life changed forever by a dating show, bringing to life the struggles of being in the public eye and staying true to one's convictions. I also really liked how Hanna grows over the course of the book coming to some new realizations, and learning to trust that everything in in God's hands. Fast-paced with a fantastic plot, I found this book hard to put down and nearly read it all in one day! A terrific read for fans of romantic comedy.

No Ocean Too Wide by Carrie Turansky ~ Review

Lucie's Review:

Katie, Garth, and Grace find themselves separated and put in London orphanages after the hospitalization of their mother while their older sister, Laura, is working as a lady’s maid. Garth, Katie, and Grace are put on the ship to Canada in hopes of being placed in families.

Laura is stunned to hear of what happened to her siblings while she was away, and with the unexpected help of her employer’s lawyer son, Andrew, she works to reclaim her siblings. But as she runs into legality after legality, time is running out. Laura takes a job escorting orphans to Canada in hopes of find out where her siblings were placed.

Based on true events, this story shows some of the plights of the working poor, and the disorganization that separated families sending children across an ocean to less than promised results. Laura finds true friends on her journey; she is inspired and encouraged by Rose’s faith. Henry is a kind man and man of strong faith, and mentor to Andrew willingly offering to help investigate the whole process and practice of what is going on.

This story follows various characters throughout as their journeys eventually begin to entwine, showing various sides. Laura is hardworking and determined; she struggles to find hope in the dark times. Andrew is a budding lawyer, he is passionate about righting wrongs and is willing to learn. Katie is a bright young woman, she fights to keep her family together with what little information she has, she fights to hope despite the mistreatment she faces.

A heart tugging read, compelling and historical. Friendships are forged, and faith tested. One of my favorite parts of this book was Rose and Henry and their shared strong faith and friendship. A powerful read that highlights the challenges of the working poor in England, the injustices and horrible treatment of orphans. The first in a series, I will definitely be reading the next book as soon as it comes out.

Guarding the Amish Midwife by Dana R. Lynn ~ Review

Lucie's Review:

Lizzy Miller is a midwife, she is hesitant to go with a strange driver, but eventually agrees because he is the brother of her regular driver. But the new driver takes a strange route and makes an odd stop, next thing she knows she sees the driver shot. She takes off in the car, using the few driving skills that she learned while on her rumspringe.

Police Officer Isaac Yoder sees a young woman driving crazily and pulls her over, unwittingly saving her from the person in pursuit. He left the Amish when he was younger, having never been baptized, yet he understands their ways. He works with Lizzy to help find out who is after her for witnessing the murder, Isaac knows that he can’t ask Lizzy to act against her faith, so he finds ways to protect her while respecting her beliefs.

Action packed tale, I liked the believability of the plot and how Lizzy got all tangled up in everything.  Lizzy and Isaac make a good team, and I liked how respectful and mindful Isaac was of the fact that Lizzy had been baptized into the church and that there were things even for her safety that he couldn’t ask of her. There were many surprises along the way, and I liked the tension.

Isaac is a good man, and good at what he does, he has a passion for working with the dog, though he has lost contact with his family and his faith. Lizzy is struggles to trust others, after the trauma of her youth, fights with fears, yet clings to her faith.

While a great stand alone, this is the sequel to Plain Retribution, and if you have read that book I think it will make this one a must read, it will help you understand more of Lizzy’s past and reservations. I liked the plot, fast-paced, and it kept me guessing. Great interaction between the characters and I thought that the various facets of the story were used very well, creating tension that left me know knowing how this would end.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A Reluctant Bride by Jody Hedlund ~ Review

My Review:

Mercy Wilkins is an Angel of Mercy on the streets of London, seeing only a bleak future ahead of her if she stays she heeds her sister's urging and joins the bride ship headed for British Columbia.

Dr. Joseph Coville is titled and wealthy, a sought after match for many looking to secure a husband for their accomplished daughter. Joseph has encountered much loss in his life, and is caught between running away and his calling to make a difference in the lives of those without access to care. He signs on with the bride ship, and is struck early on by Mercy's selfless care for others, her compassion and beauty.

Mercy is determined not to marry, but is it possible that God has other plans?

The very first in a brand new series by Jody Hedlund, this book explores the situations and hopes for a fresh start that made women choose to take a chance on a new life. I was surprised by how much of this was inspired by a true story. Ms. Hedlund highlights the differences in class that held poor women back in London, and the opportunities awaiting them in a new home.

Mercy is compassionate and selfless, automatically taking on a mother-like role for the younger girls on the ship, caring for them through every storm. While she is fearless when championing others, she struggles to see value in what she herself has to offer. Her natural nursing skills lead her to assisting Dr. Coville as he tends the sick during their long, rough journey. I admired her love for others, she is humble to a fault at times, with a courage that not even she knows.

Joseph feels pulled in many directions, he feels called to help the less fortunate, yet has a passion for seeing the world. He is inspired by Mercy's selflessness and unassuming nature never expecting something in return, unlike his peers in society. As he gets to know Mercy, he begins get just a taste of her experiences, realizing that maybe he isn't as blind to class as he thought that he was. I think all of us can see a bit of ourselves in Joseph, everyday I myself have my eyes opened to the realities of this world through relationships with and the experiences of others.

Strong tension throughout, whether from chemistry between the characters or through through situations. I was inspired by the bravery of these women headed to a place they had never been in hopes of a bright future where they could be anything. Ms. Hedlund does an excellent job of  realistically showing the binds of class, and how it was so big a part of life for many in the 1800s dictating marriage, opportunity, etc. I loved Mrs. Moresby and how she represented the opportunities ahead for the women in British Columbia. Miss Lawrence is a kind and silent ally, an I am excited to read her story in the near future. A strong start to a new series, great character development and interaction. You won't want to put it down!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Author: Roseanna M. White
Publisher: Bethany House
Release Date: June 4, 2019
Genre: Historical Fiction/Romance/Intrigue

Three years into the Great War, England’s greatest asset is their intelligence network—field agents risking their lives to gather information, and codebreakers able to crack every German telegram. Margot De Wilde thrives in the environment of the secretive Room 40, where she spends her days deciphering intercepted messages. But when her world is turned upside down by an unexpected loss, for the first time in her life numbers aren’t enough.

Drake Elton returns wounded from the field, followed by an enemy that just won’t give up. He’s smitten quickly by the too-intelligent Margot, but how to convince a girl who lives entirely in her mind that sometimes life’s answers lie in the heart?

Amidst biological warfare, encrypted letters, and a German spy who wants to destroy not just them, but others they love, Margot and Drake will have to work together to save them all from the very secrets that brought them together.

Review:

Margot De Wilde is all grown up and thriving by putting her skills to use as a codebreaker, but her world changes and her faith is shaken by a sudden loss that puts her in a tailspin. Numbers have always been there to help Margot make sense of the world around her, but in light of current events she must move outside her comfort zone. I admired Margot's strength and compassion, she understands what it is to be different, and I liked how she makes new friends and grows in her faith.

Drake Elton returns from the warfield ready to serve his country again in a different capacity. He is enchanted by Margot, who is different from every woman he has even met before, and the more he gets to know her the more he wants to be a permanent part of her life. Drake is strong and resourceful, persistent, he takes his time getting to know Margot learning to speak her language.  I admired his strong faith and how he encourages and counsels Margot as they get to know each other.

A fast paced read with excellent tension that kept me glued to the story, with fingers poised to turn the next page. A riveting race against time, Drake and Margot must work together to catch the enemy because lives are at stake. Very well researched, Ms. White brings the world of codebreaking to life, I loved learning about the brilliant men and women who used their gifts for their country. I was so excited when I first heard about this book, because I had loved Margot ever since I read A Song Unheard, where she is featured alongside her brother, Lukas. And while you certainly don't have to read A Song Unheard in order to understand this book, but I felt like I appreciated it so much more having read its companion book.

Overall, one of my favorite books by Roseanna White that I have read so far, fantastic characters, great plot, and a historical setting that comes to life in all of its intrigue and suspense, grounded in faith.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Special Sneak Peek:

Duty done, Margot spun away.
And nearly collided with Lieutenant Elton, who was, inexplicably, right behind her rather than where he’d been a moment before, two steps to the left. She sucked in a breath and sidestepped him. “Excuse me.”
He slid in front of her again. “Belgian?”
She lifted her brows. Her accent was scarcely noticeable anymore, she’d thought. Not nearly so pronounced as Lukas’s or Maman’s. Her English was as fluent as her French had ever been. She even dreamed in it, most of the time.
And what business was it of his? “Antarctican.” She prepared herself to stalk away . . . but there was something about the grin he gave her. Something that said he appreciated her answer.
Margot sighed. She’d always been drawn to anyone who actually enjoyed her sense of humor. She supposed she could stand to be friendly. For a minute, before her exhaustion fully caught up with her.
He held out a hand. “I’m Drake Elton. Have you a name?”

She blinked. It was a question stupid enough that it should have made her itchy. But he’d smiled at her Antarctica quip, so she’d keep playing along. “No, my parents forgot to give me one. It’s a great tragedy. I’ve been answering to ‘you, girl’ all my life.”

The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner ~ Review

My Review:

Sarah Hollenbeck married her high school sweetheart, and spent her life supporting him in his career. But when she finds her beloved Patrick with another woman, her world comes crumbling down and she finds solace in book clubs, inspiring her to write a steamy romance that makes her a best-seller.

But her life pivots again when she gives her life to the Lord, and starts dating the new pastor at her church.

A fun-filled read from the very start, it was sugary sweet like a Hallmark movie, but it also had some really great in depth discussions on faith. There were moments that had me laughing out loud and and others that had me grinning a stupid grin ear to ear. It was an absolute delight, there were moments that might have been a bit cheesy, but its cheeky self-awareness was a strength.

I loved Sarah's best friend Piper, she is a long time Christian who helps Sarah navigate the ropes of her new faith, as well as a encouraging her positively and supporting her under tough circumstances. I wouldn't mind a sequel where Piper finds someone amazing! I love how Piper is honest, and tells Sarah the things that she needs to hear, not the things that she wants to hear. She is wonderfully human, and makes her mistakes too, but is honest with herself as well.

Ben is a pretty much a knight in shining armor, he is honest and upfront about some of his struggles, but he stands with Sarah and supports her through everything. They have an instant chemistry and his daughter is just the sweetest! I loved his close relationship with his in-laws and his sense of priority.

Overall, an absolutely thoroughly enjoyable read from beginning to end. I loved the pop-culture references to Dr. Quinn! Sarah was a lovable character, and one of my favorite things about this book was her friendship with Piper. Her romance with Ben was pretty hot too. I loved how this book had really great relatable Christian role models, as well as how the fun romance is balance with Biblical truth as Sarah learns to step out in faith and what it means to trust God. Utterly delightful!

Lone Witness by Shirley McCoy ~ Review

Lucie's Review:

Tessa Carlson prevents the abduction of FBI Agent Henry Miller's daughter, but her act of bravery has thrust her into the sights of the would-be abductors.

Tessa has kept a low profile since getting out of an abusive relationship, but preventing the kidnapping puts everything that she has worked so hard for at risk. Tess struggles to trust, after everything that she has been through, she doubts her judgement, but has a passion for helping others and can't stay silent in the face of wrong.

Henry is a devoted and dedicated FBI agent, he works hard to protect his daughters and is grateful to Tessa for what she did. He is a brave man of action, with a strong faith.

A riveting read, filled with intrigue and suspense. The danger grows and the clues don't add up, all coming together in a thrilling climax. A suspenseful read, great tension, with many secrets. Filled with action and great interaction.

Wherever You Go by Tracie Peterson ~ Review

Lucie's Review:

Mary Reichert rejoins the all-female Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza in hopes of bringing the man who killed her brother to justice. Will Mary finally find what she needs to bring her brother's murderer to justice?

Christopher Williams is a journalist documenting their experiences in the wild west show, he is smitten by the enchanting sharpshooter who is his main feature in the article he is writing. But he has secrets of his own that could damage their budding relationship.

Mary is very forthright and doesn't hold back, or beat around the bush. She is very confident and knows her craft well. A natural showwoman she knows how to draw in, and dazzle the crowd. She was very close to her brother and struggles to find closure with the killer still at large. I admired her strength and faith during everything that she faced.

Christopher is inquisitive and loves to learn, he isn't intimidated by Mary's talent, and he doesn't shy away from trying to answer the tough questions. He is a natural people person, and is very good at his job.

The books also continues to follow Wesley and Lizzie from the previous book, as they navigate their engagement and grow in their relationship. I loved getting to know Wesley better, as well as get to know another side of him with arrival of his brother.

Overall, an excellent installment in the series. This series is best enjoyed in order, as many past relationships are pick up, and continued as well as the mysteries and main plot lines throughout. Great character development, and I loved how we continued to follow Wesley, Lizzie, and Ella. Great pacing, adventure and mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Women Who Met Jesus by Dorothy Valcarcel ~ Review

My Review:

Using 18 stories from the New Testament this book shows how Jesus understands and restores our brokenness. Dorothy Valcarcel uses stories from her own life and experiences along with women from the Bible to show how Jesus fulfills our needs, transforming lives.

20 chapters introduce us to the women of the New Testament, using various translations and paraphrases of the Bible as well as drawing from personal experience each chapter reads like a devotional. Each chapter is divided into multiple parts, with times for reflection, questions, affirmations, and inspirational quotes.

I liked the author's dedication and study of scripture, with the premise of showing the transformation of lives truly touched by Jesus Christ. I didn't always connect well with some of the introductory stories by the author right away, and it was kind of a slower read for me. It was an encouraging read, and I liked how even though for some of the women featured their encounter with Jesus was brief, it changed everything.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Character Spotlight : Margot from A Song Unheard by Roseanna M. White ~ Just Read Tour + Rafflecopter

Character Spotlight

Name: Margot De Wilde

Age: 14 (in A Song Unheard)

Margot De Wilde is brilliant with numbers, they are a way for her to explain and understand the world around her, she thinks, learns, and prays in numbers. Her father recognized her gift early on and encouraged her talent by leaving increasingly challenging puzzles for her to solve. She applies algorithms to her everyday live, cleverly helping her brother with codes of her own, as well as outsmarting the Germans.

Margot is resourceful and courageous, with an intelligence and maturity beyond her years. She doesn't have the most patience with the activities of the average young woman her age, but because of the spies who are looking for the secret to her father's codebreaking success.

Margot shares a strong bond with each of her family members, but most of all she was close to her late father. Her mother and brother love her dearly, accepting her as she is, and protecting her.

Margot was one of my very favorite character from A Song Unheard and I was absolutely thrilled when I heard about Mrs. White's brand new Codebreakers Series and that the first book The Number of Love is about Margot.

Flight of the Raven by Morgan L. Busse ~ Review ~ Book Tour ~ Rafflecopter Giveaway

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

Flight of the Raven
(The Ravenwood Saga #2)
By Morgan L. Busse
Christian Fantasy
Paperback & ebook, 352 Pages
April 30th 2019 by Bethany House Publishers

Selene Ravenwood, once the heir to House Ravenwood, is now an exile. On the run and free of her family's destiny, Selene hopes to find the real reason her family was given the gift of dreamwalking. But first she must adapt to her new life as wife to Lord Damien Maris, the man she was originally assigned to kill.

While adjusting to her marriage and her home in the north, her power over dreams begins to grow. As the strongest dreamwalker to exist in ages, her expanding power attracts not only nightmares but the attention of the Dark Lady herself.

With a war looming on the horizon and a wicked being after her gift, Selene is faced with a choice: embrace the Dark Lady's offer, or search out the one who gave her the gift of dreamwalking. One path offers power, the other offers freedom. But time is running out, and soon her choice will be made for her.

My Review:

Picking up right where the last book left off, Selene is adjusting to her new life with her new husband, and continuing her quest to to find the reason behind her dreamwalking gift. With tensions mounting between the great houses and possible war on the horizon, she must choose if she will serve the Dark or the Light.

Selene is courageous and brave leaving everything that she knew to blaze a new path for her and House Ravenwood. She faces the challenges of a new marriage, her growing unknown powers, and the conflict within for her soul. I admired her heart for others, and how even though she plays her cards close to her chest, she cares very deeply.

I think my very favorite thing about this book was the relationship between Damien and Selene. It isn't easy, but Morgan Busse does an excellent job of shining a light on their ups and downs amongst the growing tensions and unknowns on the horizons.

Damien is amazing, he deeply respects Selene and supports her even when he doesn't know if he can trust her or not, he bravely puts himself out there again and again. I loved how even though it would have been so easy to make him some perfect white knight in shining armor, he has his doubts and darks days too. I admired how his faith is a way of life for him and affects everything he does.

Overall, a thrilling follow up to Mark of the Raven, it's rare that I like the middle book in a trilogy, as they often carry the "filler book stigma," but not this one, in in fact I like it more than the first book. In this book the stakes are raised, great risks are taken, there are satisfying beginnings as we see Damien and Selene come to trust each other, as well as a deeper more vulnerable side of Selene that she used to keep hidden. The characters are complex, and you know it's done right when you can sympathize with the villain. I had a very busy week when I read this book, yet I couldn't put it down and often read late into the night, the time and the pages just flew by and sometimes I forgot I was reading. I haven't read a fantasy series this amazing in a long time and it truly checks all of the boxes for me, fantastic plot, compelling balanced characters, great interaction, tension, secrets, actions, mounting stakes, explosive climax and strong faith imagery. You won't want to miss it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
