My Review: 

Dive deep into Scripture with host Brad Gray, who takes us through the Lord's Prayer phrase by phrase with cultural, historical, and contextual context. 

In depth, with cinematic visuals, the series is divided into 7 episodes that run roughly half an hour, which makes it great for sparking conversations and giving time for you to think and absorb. Great for small groups, Bible studies, or watching with your family at home. The delivery is engaging, with deep insights, while we are taken down the streets that Jesus walked. 

I really enjoyed how they took their time thoughtfully and compellingly to explore the context, consulting New Testament experts, and explaining the landscape that Jesus had entered and what he was telling his disciples. I rewatched a few episodes because they were just so good, and there was so much in there to absorb. 

Overall, an excellently done series that made me appreciate the Lord's Prayer even more, now that I know more of the background and significance. Compelling, easy to follow, strong delivery and depth. Highly recommend!

My Review:

A musical series with strong themes of faith and redemption, filled with infectious beats, impressive duets, and killer dance sequences.

If you were like me and grew up with High School Musical and Camp Rock, then this will be right up your alley. Made in a similar style, with amazing choreography sequences, and catchy songs, you can tell it is made for the pre-teen crowd, but will be a winner with everyone. The cast is uber talented, and I love that the 7 part series gives us room to develop the characters more and explore different struggles faced by new and older Christians alike. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments, a great plot, and well written plot. 

A well done production that uses everything in their arsenal, with powerful storytelling and an emphasis on grace and redemption. I liked how the humor is clean, funny, and aware of their Christian audience. There are emotionally authentic moments that I think so many of us can relate to, and it doesn't take faith lightly or for granted. I think my favorite part was Lenny learning that just because she's a Christian doesn't mean that she has to be a doormat. Meanwhile, other characters discover that we can't forget that it isn't our works, but God's grace. So well done, with an amazing cast who are triple threats of talent. A worthwhile coming of age series that will be enjoyed by the whole family over and over again!

Review: 

Episode 1: The first episode introduces the alternate modern day that the series is set in, showing the beginning tremors of world-changing grassroots revolution.  I think that the show creators did an excellent job of taking and staying true to the original text, while showing it in a modern context. You can see where they took great pains to stay true to the source material, while making it exciting and fresh, showing the great risks that the disciples and early apostles took to spread the good news. We are introduced to Stephen, a young man, who steps off the plotted path to follow Jesus, leaving everything behind. The first episode shows the bigger plot emerging as the characters are introduced, and the un-ignorable political tensions are shown in force. 

Episode 2: Picking up right where the previous episode left off, we are introduced to more of the characters and get a glimpse inside their day-to-day operations and see the weight of what they are up against with the Sanhedrin. I liked the portrayal of Saul, and how we delve more into the character of Peter and how he is haunted by his denial of Christ and how that shapes him. I liked that it doesn't shy away from the questioning and complexity by digging into the characters. 

Well done speculative action-drama series, manages to keep you on your toes even when you have an idea of the plot and the direction it may go. You can tell that every aspect of this series was thought out, from the color palette, music choices, the style with which it was filmed, as well as how we might have progressed into the modern age without the influence of Christ and the early church having happened yet. There are strong artistic choices made that add to the emphasis of the series and bring the world they created to life. I noticed the use of lighting and contrast really helps to set the tone. A full cast of very talented actors bring this thought-provoking story to life about the early church, set in the modern day. Appropriate for families with older children and teens.

 My Review: 

A brand new original faith-based drama centered around a team of EMTs, everyday heroes saving lives and dealing with the human condition. 

I liked how the show focuses on a group of new recruits learning the ropes and proving themselves as capable rescuers, facing the challenges of the unknown with courage and faith. A great start to a new series, I loved how we get to know more about the characters over the course of the show, seeing their struggles and backgrounds. I admired Dani for staying true to her calling, and her faith in the face of criticism and doubt. 

A well done show, with a firm foundation in faith, and a whole cast of characters with different dynamics and backgrounds. I'm excited to see where this series leads!

My Review: 

This 6-part series follows a storied high school football team coming off a couple of the worst seasons they've seen, but the return of legendary Pastor and Coach Denny Duron injects a new burst of hope as Evangel makes a run at making their dream of a Championship come true. 

The documentary does a great job of showing the culture of the school, and the hard work and determination the boys have put into playing the game. The boys love the game and have big dreams that hinge on their team having a good season. I loved the sense of belonging and family that the boys felt towards their team. Their coaches are both godly men and wonderful role models, and the boys are constantly encouraging each other and lifting each other up. I loved how the show doesn't shy away from showing how their faith is the biggest part of what they do. 

A compelling series that takes you with Evangel's football team through the highs and lows of the season. This is a show that you can watch with the whole family, it highlights the comradery between the boys, their hard work, and their faith. A feel-good, docuseries that gives a glimpse into Evangel's quest for a comeback, highly enjoyable!

Episode #3 Review:

Eleanor finds herself shaken by the aftermath of the previous episode, wanting to step up for a fractured family. Meanwhile, she is presiding over the case of a gifted young man who finds himself on at odds with the law and his bright future threatened. 

I like how this series does a good job of showing difficult situations, but also the hope through genuine friendships. Eleanor is a compassionate judge, and I liked that she wants to do more than what her job requires to help others in the long term. 

This is an emotional episode, dealing with what happened previously. Eleanor feels the need to reach out and do more yet is also understandably scared of taking that leap of faith. I also liked the themes of being a chain-breaker, and not doing what is always done simply because no else has done something different. 

A turning point episode to be sure in this inspiring and emotional series. It will be exciting to see what happens next in this 6-part series.

Review of Episode #3: A touching love story set on the rodeo circuit based on the book by best-selling author, Karen Kingsbury.

Cody Gunnar is living the fast life of a bull rider with dreams of the NFR, but all the while he seems to be running. Running from his mother, his father, the pain of the past. Until he meets barrel racer Ali Daniels who has him looking at life in a new way.

An engaging drama, it does a great job of realistically bringing to life the challenges, risks and rewards of living on the rodeo circuit. I was so excited to see this book brought to the screen, especially as a Karen Kingsbury fan who can't resist a good Western. This particular episode was my favorite so far, as we get to see Ali and Cody spend more time together, finding a unique friendship and in each other someone to confide in.

Ali is a beautiful young woman inside and out, she has a passion for rodeo, never takes a single day for granted, and doesn't take part in the rodeo social life. I loved that she has a concerned and supportive family around her. It was also nice to see a lighter side of Cody, through his friendship with Ali and how it has changed him.

The series is well acted and has plenty of rodeo action, though parts of the cowboy nightlife are shown, it never goes past PG, and I think that it would be a great series to watch as a family. I'm excited to see where this series will lead!

Review:

A heartwarming and faith filled new series about 2 angels, Grace and Jeremiah, who carryout God's plan by helping the people that they meet along the way.

An engaging series, with heartfelt storylines that are each unique and capture the challenges faced in the present day. I would say that some of the episodes deal with more mature situations than others, so it is a show for families with older children who are prepared to talk about some of the things portrayed. I thought that they did an excellent job of handling the more sensitive topics with faith and compassion, all the while keeping it family friendly.

I really liked how each of the stories was infused with hope, while pointing to God. Each of the stories were well done, with a great cast, and a story that tugged at my heart.

Overall, a heartwarming series of faith and answered prayers, deftly dealing with difficult topics through faith and encouragement. A highly enjoyable show that I hope continues for many more episodes!

Review:

A heartfelt original series from Pure Flix that follows a group of nurses and their patients at an end of life facility as they prepare for their journey to the life after this one.

I was impressed from the start with the excellent writing of this series, dealing with a difficult subject in a way that is compassionate, gives dignity, respect, and is a reminder of the hope for those who believe in Christ. This particular episode was one the hardest to watch, as Katherine's daughter especially is struggling with the facts of their situation, while a child with end stage Huntington's disease is admitted to their facility. I loved seeing how Janey has grown under the mentorship of Charley as a nurse not only dealing with patients, but their families as well. 

Heartwarming and tear-jerking, yet at the same time filled with hope and encouragement for the families who are also facing some of their darkest days. I especially loved how Charley helped Sadie, by encouraging her to make the most of the time she had left with Steph. A inspiring and thought provoking new series that explores many unique topics for a TV series, bringing hope and encouragement even in the toughest trials.

Review:

Episode 1: Finding Sandy kicks off a brand new spin-off series of Sons of Thunder, by introducing Jacob. Jacob is excited about his new lease on life after finding the Lord in prison, but even though he wants to leave his past behind, the past won't let him go that easily. He travels to California to make amends to his former fiancé, and finds work as a ranch hand.

Jacob is a changed man, he left who he was behind, and I admired his commitment to his faith and making things right, seeking forgiveness for his past. This show differs from the original most noticeably in that it seems to be setting up the whole season to take place in one central location, rather than having Jacob drift adventure to adventure. I liked that Jacob is trusting God and wants to do the right thing even if it isn't easy.

Overall this is a great start to a new show, I had really enjoyed the original series so that isn't a surprise to me. I think that the more drawn out storyline will give it more room for detail and side plots. Logan is an intriguing character and it will be interesting to see what they do with him. I loved how the Gibsons welcome Jacob onto their ranch. I will definitely keep watching to see what happens next and if Jacob's past will come back to haunt him. A show that you could definitely watch as a family, though young children are not the intended audience. I would give it a PG rating for the themes and violence.

Sons of Thunder: Season 1 // TV Show Review

Combat vet Simon motorcycles across the country, working odd jobs, helping those God puts in his path, and trying to atone for past sins in a biker club, in this Pureflix exclusive series. 

  

My Review: 

Sons of Thunder is somethings of a hidden gem, because you don't quite know what to expect until you give it a chance. Simon turned over a new leaf when he became a Christian, leaving behind his checkered past as part of an infamous motorcycle gang as well as the woman he loves.

Simon rides across the country picking up odd jobs and helping people along the way, trusting God while trying to outrun his past. Simon is an unlikely hero, but he follows where God leads, I admired his commitment and willingness to stand his ground. It was fun getting to see him in different situations using his know-how to help others. I also thought that it was awesome how he used the opportunities given him to witness to others. 

Sons of Thunder is an engaging show, filled with faith, and action. Simon is a humble hero, who stands up for his faith and is a willing helping hand to those who think they are helping him. A great series for families with teens as there are some adult situations and violence, even thought they keep it non-explicit. Definitely worth checking out!

Vindication Season Two : Episode Six // Review and Pureflix Subscription Giveaway

Review:

As a troubling case involving provocative photographs of minors comes to light, Detective Travis and Detective Tre Millwood work to solve the case.

This second season of Vindication has been so far more focused on the personal stories of the characters, with a little less of the crime. Det. Travis come a long way since the first season and I like how that has impacted his marriage and personal faith. Episode six of the second season though takes us back to the crime solving that caught my attention in the first place, Det. Tre Millwood is an excellent addition to Travis's team, as he seems like a solid and dependable man to have in his corner. 

I think that this particular episode did a great job of showing the dangers of posting risky content online, as well as trusting strangers and the dangers of child predators. This TV show is excellently acted and well made, handling difficult topics in a honest yet not explicit way that can help start meaningful conversations with your teens. I don't want to give too much away, but I feel like the show is getting into the groove again with things in Travis's work life starting to heat up. I'm excited to see where the rest of the season goes!
