Review:

Engaging underdog film for the family about overcoming the past and second chances. 

I love a good underdog sports film, and this one follows a man who lives in the shadow of his past. Until he get's the chance to prove himself on a large scale, at open NBA try outs. 

 I loved that Scott had a great support system of amazing friends, especially Nick, an enthusiastic man who feels called to the ministry but has had his own setbacks. I especially liked the character of Pastor Lawrence. 

The film was well written, acted, and filmed, with a strong message of faith, second chances, and perseverance. I liked seeing Scott grow over the course of the movie, as well as how there was a strong faith centered core to the story throughout. Each of David A.R. White's films are better than the last, and this is no exception! A compelling and engaging film that you can watch with your family!

Although she is trained to assist Nate with  his basic needs, Gigi helps Nate find what he needs most of all: hope. 

Review:

A heartwarming and emotional film, about a young man who finds an unlikely friend in his unexpected service animal, a capuchin monkey named Gigi. 

Engagingly this inspiring movie tells the story of Nate Gibson a young man whose whole life is turned around when he is struck with meningitis that leaves him in a wheelchair and short on hope. A captivating film, with hope at its core.

An all-star cast tells this inspiring story, well-paced and full of heart. Gigi is a scene stealer, her monkey antics and expressions are so adorable and emotive. I loved seeing Nate bond with her and all of the tasks that she helped him with throughout the film. 

 An entertaining story of perseverance, hope and the power of a friend. I really enjoyed this film, everything was so well done and does a great job of showing such an inspiring and heartwarming friendship, with some twists along the way. Definitely worth seeing!

Content note: The movie is rated PG-13. I think that it would be okay for older teens at parent's discretion. The movie has some thematic elements and themes, a character attempts suicide, there are some scenes of teen partying and drinking, people become drunk, as well as strong language. Faith is briefly shown in prayer and symbolism, but this is not a faith focused film.

Review:

A heartwarming family film about family, priorities, and second chances.

Janie and her husband are expecting their first child, but the stresses of work compete for her full attention until an angel steps in...

An entertaining family film, it reminded me a little of the famous Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, with a fun original twist. I liked how Janie was challenged to see how her workaholic ways had been tough on her family, and how her husband was willing to sacrifice everything he had worked for to care for their family. Samantha was a sweet girl, and I think that movie did a good job of showing that it isn't easy all the time to put family and faith first.

Overall, this was a heartwarming film about second chances, family, and faith. I enjoyed watching it with my mother, and we both agreed that it was well acted and had some surprising twists along the way. Don't miss this movie, streaming exclusively on Pureflix!

In the film we see many different families with various levels of experience, share the reasons why homeschooling is right for them, their doubts, and encouragements for others. 

As a homeschool graduate myself, watching this was pretty much preaching to the choir, though I do believe that this is a encouraging film and is perfect for the target audience. I thought that the film did an excellent job of showing the variety of homeschooling, as well as how it helps to foster strong family bonds. It was so fun to see all the different families and the ways that they were able to give their child a unique education that gave them everything they needed, but also fed their strengths to help them flourish. 

A must see for people wondering about homeschooling, filled with encouragement and true stories from a variety of families.

Review:

A parable about second chances, based on the book by Wally Armstrong and Ken Blanchard. 

Paul McAllister is a high powered businessman, too busy for his family, and always chasing the next big deal. Hoping to improve his gold game he meets with a man known as the Old Pro who teaches him the secret of The Mulligan. 

The movie is slower to start, but as the movie picked up it was fun to learn more about the game of golf, and see pieces all come together. I really liked that they didn't shy away from a strong faith-based message of hope. The Old Pro, played by Pat Boone, is such a fun character, with his plaid golfing pants, and patient way of giving out sage advice. The movie was well done, and I thought that it did a good job of showing the importance of family, honesty, and faith. 

Overall, I was a little unsure about this movie in the beginning as I am in no shape or form a golfer or golf enthusiast, but as the story progressed and the foundation laid at the beginning began to pay off I found myself genuinely enjoying it. By the end it had won me over. A solid movie, well acted, great plot, and a powerful message of faith, integrity and family!

A spin-off of the original "Sons of Thunder." "Redemption" follows Jacob, a lone biker on the road, on his journey to share his faith, seek forgiveness and encourage others on a ranch in California while scraping by from job to job and spreading the love of Jesus to those he meets.

Review:

Episode 1: Finding Sandy kicks off a brand new spin-off series of Sons of Thunder, by introducing Jacob. Jacob is excited about his new lease on life after finding the Lord in prison, but even though he wants to leave his past behind, the past won't let him go that easily. He travels to California to make amends to his former fiancé, and finds work as a ranch hand.

Jacob is a changed man, he left who he was behind, and I admired his commitment to his faith and making things right, seeking forgiveness for his past. This show differs from the original most noticeably in that it seems to be setting up the whole season to take place in one central location, rather than having Jacob drift adventure to adventure. I liked that Jacob is trusting God and wants to do the right thing even if it isn't easy.

Overall this is a great start to a new show, I had really enjoyed the original series so that isn't a surprise to me. I think that the more drawn out storyline will give it more room for detail and side plots. Logan is an intriguing character and it will be interesting to see what they do with him. I loved how the Gibsons welcome Jacob onto their ranch. I will definitely keep watching to see what happens next and if Jacob's past will come back to haunt him. A show that you could definitely watch as a family, though young children are not the intended audience. I would give it a PG rating for the themes and violence.

Review:

As a troubling case involving provocative photographs of minors comes to light, Detective Travis and Detective Tre Millwood work to solve the case.

This second season of Vindication has been so far more focused on the personal stories of the characters, with a little less of the crime. Det. Travis come a long way since the first season and I like how that has impacted his marriage and personal faith. Episode six of the second season though takes us back to the crime solving that caught my attention in the first place, Det. Tre Millwood is an excellent addition to Travis's team, as he seems like a solid and dependable man to have in his corner. 

I think that this particular episode did a great job of showing the dangers of posting risky content online, as well as trusting strangers and the dangers of child predators. This TV show is excellently acted and well made, handling difficult topics in a honest yet not explicit way that can help start meaningful conversations with your teens. I don't want to give too much away, but I feel like the show is getting into the groove again with things in Travis's work life starting to heat up. I'm excited to see where the rest of the season goes!

Trinidad Jones is starting over after divorce and opening her very own ice cream shop with the property left her in the settlement. 

A fun, fresh small town cozy read, I loved that Trinidad is making friends and the best of her new beginnings. Upper Sprocket is a welcoming place, and I adored the clever names of the local businesses and the backstories.

Trinidad is a relatable heroine, with her own insecurities, but I loved how she follows her dream of opening and ice cream shop where she can be creative. And I admired her willingness to help and befriend her ex-husband's other ex-wife.

Overall, there were many fun characters, and I liked that Trinidad offers to help out her new friends. I was delighted that the plot kept me guessing throughout, and managed to surprise me in the end. This book is clean in content, though it has Christian aspects to it, the themes are not as strong as your typical Christian fiction. A great start to a fresh new series, and I can't wait to read more!

A freakshake is a milkshake festooned with so many extras (sprinkles, cookies, candy, donuts, cake, slabs of pie) that it is hardly liftable. It is the stuff my sugar fantasy dreams are made of! Now picture a freakshake shop called the Shimmy and Shake in the quaint and quirky town of Upper Sprocket in Eastern Oregon. Known as the “Swiss Alps” of Oregon, this fictional place is the new home to a woman named Trinidad Jones, a lady starting out on the second phase of her life after her husband’s betrayal. Sprinkle in a dose of Papa Luis, her darling Cuban grandfather (inspired by my own Cuban grandfather) who drives a classic Buick, and a devoted service dog flunk out named Noodles. You know what’s missing? A murder, of course! That happens shortly after Trinidad opens her new shop, and from there on out it’s a sticky, spine tingling, sweet and satisfying and slightly funny adventure in mystery land. I had an absolute blast writing the first installment in this series, and I’m knee deep in the second as I write this.
