Amelia Barrett, the heiress of Winterwood, is a remarkable heroine, who has devoted herself to caring for her deceased friend's daughter, Lucy. Everything rides on Amelia marrying a sly man named Edward, but when Lucy's father comes back from America, Amelia proposes a marriage of convenience to Graham (Lucy's father).
Will Graham and Amelia be able to depend on each other when the uninmaginable happens?
A riveting, and page turning read, with a heart-stopping mystery, and intricately woven story threads. Amelia was an excellent heroine, with pluck, and beautiful heart to fiercely protect those she loved.
This book had terrific flow and pacing, that made this book nearly impossible to put down, there was plenty going on, and lots of well developed side characters, both good and bad.
I loved how Amelia and Graham's relationship grew naturally by depending on one another and not knee wobbling infatuation, I loved their honest interactions, and I think that Ms. Ladd did a stellar job of bringing the setting and all the characters to life in their varying dynamics.
Overall, a thrilling regency read, that I will definitely be recommending. There wasn't a thing that I didn't like :) I can't wait for the next book in the series! And I'm positive that we'll be seeing much more from Ms. Ladd in the future!
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
About the Book:
Darbury, England, 1814
Amelia Barrett gave her word. Keeping it could cost her everything.
Amelia Barrett, heiress to an estate nestled in the English moors, defies family expectations and promises to raise her dying friend's baby. She'll risk everything to keep her word-even to the point of proposing to the child's father-a sea captain she's never met.
When the child vanishes with little more than an ominous ransom note hinting at her whereabouts, Amelia and Graham are driven to test the boundaries of their love for this little one.
Amelia's detailed plans would normally see her through any trial, but now, desperate and shaken, she's forced to examine her soul and face her one weakness: pride.
Graham's strength and self-control have served him well and earned him much respect, but chasing perfection has kept him a prisoner of his own discipline. And away from the family he has sworn to love and protect.
Both must learn to have faith and relinquish control so they can embrace the future ahead of them.
