My Review: 

After fleeing for her safety in the dead of night, Tess Hale finds that everything she knew about her past was a half-truth, and she is caught between two feuding clans in a fight to regain their standing. Can the man who has the most at stake, be her only chance at safety?

An engaging adventure, with a courageous heroine and an honorable Scottish nobleman who lives his faith. I liked how despite all the new to her revelations Tess keeps a level head, speaking up for herself and holding to what she knows is true regardless. Jamie is protective of Tess, and despite being on opposite sides of the conflict finds himself impressed with her determination and cleverness. 

A fast-moving plot, with likable characters that you can cheer for throughout. I liked their chemistry and growing admiration for each other, as well as their shared faith. An adventure filled, high stakes romance, and an entertaining plot. Highly recommend!

The Christmas Courier by Roseanna M. White // Review

My Review: 

Madeleine Perin and her siblings are doing what they can to fight back against the Nazi occupation of France, working with the resistance along with their former neighbor Daniel Raymond. 

A stirring friends-to-lovers romance based loosely on a true story of hope and resilience in wartime. An engaging read, with likable protagonists who have known each other since childhood. I loved the closeness and support between the Perin siblings and their mother, pulling together and leaning on their faith in difficult times. I liked the chemistry and playfulness between Madeleine and Daniel, as well as their new closeness at a shared faith. 

Hopeful and faith filled Christmas novella, heartwarming and compelling plot, with high stakes in Lyon, France. Madeleine is quick thinking and charismatic, devoted to her family, her faith and the children at the school. I liked that Daniel was a close family friend, and how he took care with how he came forward after what happened in his own personal life, as well as his care for others. 

Overall, a satisfying Christmas novella full of faith, hope, love and family!

The Blackout Book Club by Amy Lynn Green // Review

My Review: 

An unlikely head librarian brings a community together over books during wartime. 

Avid Montgomery is not the biggest reader, but she makes a promise to her brother before he goes to war and is determined to keep it. When Miss Cavendish threatens to close the library and turn it into a nursery school, Avis comes up with the idea of a book club to encourage indoor activities during wartime. 

The book club brings a variety of women and men together, slowly becoming friends while discussing books. Ginny is feisty and opinionated saying things like they are and saving to help her family back home. She brings a lot of humor to the story, and I liked her friendship with Freddy. Martina is a thoughtful and hardworking woman, doing her best to take care of her children and provide for them alone. 

Overall, an entertaining and enjoyable read that follows 4 very different women brought together in friendship through books. I loved how the book club brought the town together from all walks of life and situations, sharing their thoughts on books, laughing and learning together, showing the beautiful side of humanity. Engaging plot, with memorable characters, and compelling storylines. Highly recommend!

Specters in the Glass House by Jaime Jo Wright // Review

My Review: 

A gripping dual timeline novel with chilling suspense, engaging plotline, and faith. 

In 1921 Marian Arnold returns home to the ruins of her family's brewing empire in the height of Prohibition, and finds herself haunted unworldly nightmares that seem to bring death in the form of a killer with butterflies as their calling card. 

Decades later Remy Shaw takes a jobs as an assistant to a biographer digging into the life of Marian Arnold and hoping to discover more about the Butterfly Killer. But strange things start to happen at the manor, strangely reminiscent of what happened so many years ago. Could the key be in Remy's past? 

A gripping gothic dual timeline novel, that dives into a world of family secrets and the psychological. A little bit of a slower build up, but the clues laid along the way all pay off in a climactic ending full of twists and turns. I liked both Remy and Marian. Both had troubled upbringings and are trying to make sense of it as adults. Great storytelling, suspense, and character development. Another thrilling read from Ms. Wright!

Lady Flyer by Heather B. Moore // Review

My Review: 

Based on the inspiring true story of flying pioneer Nancy Harkness Love as she fights for women's place in the sky during WWII. 

Nancy discovers her love for flying as a young woman and pursues it into a career alongside her supportive husband Bob Love. I loved how she fought for quality and safety in training for the women, without taking shortcuts, and putting the ladies under her first. 

A well written historical novel, well researched and written with respect to the real historical figures. I loved the strong relationship between Nancy and Bob, built on a shared love for flying and mutual respect. I learned a lot about the formation of the WAFS and WASPs and the fight for women to serve their country during wartime. 

Riveting read, with strong characters great storytelling, while honoring the real-life women who sacrificed to serve their country. Entertaining and I walked away feeling like I learned so much! Highly recommend!

The Heart's Most Wanted by Mary Connealy // Review

Lucie's Review: 

Picking up right where the previous book left off, this book follows Morgan, Owen, and Delany through the treacherous Rocky Mountains on their hunt for their missing friend. 

US Marshal Morgan Sawyer is on a mission to find out what happened to Marshal Tex who went missing while they were escorting a prisoner. His mission reunites him with his childhood friend Roz, who is now widowed with a young son. Roz is looking for an escape, decides that taking a chance on Morgan, a man she trusts is better than a slowly dying future in a small rural town. 

An action packed read, with great characters, it takes up the next chapter of the story began in the previous book. Definitely, important to read this series in order as it builds on a lot of stuff that happened in the last book. I liked the Morgan takes young Jesse under his wing, and the rekindling of friendship between Roz and Morgan. 

An engaging and entertaining read, with great dialogue, and deep friendships, plenty of action, faith and Western suspense. Great interaction and faith. I liked that we continue to follow Owen and Delany from the previous book. Wonderful addition to the series, I can't wait to read about Tex and Stella next!

The Paris Housekeeper by Renee Ryan // Review

My Review: 

Three women are bound together by the horrors of the Nazi occupation of France, in this gritty and inspiring novel. 

The story follows Rachel, Camille and Vivian. They meet while Camille and Rachel work at the Ritz Hotel, where Vivian is a wealthy guest. But when the Germans comes, everything changes and they are pushed to their limits while fighting for pieces of humanity against their heartless foes. 

Camille is the connecting thread. She is willing to do anything and works hard to help her family be able to take care of her sister who goes through bouts of depression and mental instability. She is clever and knows the danger that the Nazi regime poses to her sister. I admired her straight moral compass and how she continues to choose humanity even when it would be easy to walk away or take and easier path. She is a source of encouragement to the other women. 

Rachel's father refuses to leave Paris, and soon they are stuck. She is understandably frustrated and questioning. I liked how she supports her family in small ways that mean a lot. 

Vivian is a wealthy American widow, who lost the love of her life, and wants to use her wealth to help others during this tumultuous time. Quickly she gets swept into a dangerous situation and branded a horizontal collaborator, while trying a stay afloat and continue to help others. 

A gritty and gripping read, with remarkable women who have to make very hard choices and make sacrifices for others. The content in this book is mostly clean, but things happen off page that we are very aware of. It is a very sad story and hard to read at times. I thought it was sad that Vivian hoped that her good works were enough to counteract the wrongs she had done, yet she didn't have a peace from assurance. There is some faith alluded to, through prayers and fleeting thoughts, or non-religiousness as well.

Well researched, realistic, and inspiring story of three women living through the Nazi occupation of Paris.

The Berlin Letters by Katherine Reay // Review

My Review: 

CIA codebreaker Lusia Voekler stumbles upon a letter that opens a vault of secrets and sends her digging in her own history for answers about her father. 

A riveting read that follows Lusia in the U.S. working for the CIA, and her father back in East Germany. It goes back and forth, often covering the same patch of time through two different perspectives. Gripping, gritty and realistic. The author does an excellent job of showing the impact that it had in splitting up families, and the not knowing the truth beyond the walls. 

Well researched, realistic, and well done. Engaging and compelling plot that pulls you in. I liked learning more about the time period, and how people rebelled through music. A high stakes plot, that kept me locked in. Definitely recommend!

The Indigo Heiress by Laura Frantz // Review

My Review: 

Juliet Catesby is a capable woman, she has poured herself into her father's indigo business, as well as freeing slaves. In order to cancel a debt, her father arranges for one of his daughters to marry a Scots lord, Juliet is surprise when he chooses her instead of her younger and more marriage minded sister. I admired how she made the best of her new life, and made an effort to welcome Leith's children and get to know them. She is a clever and capable woman, strong in her convictions and kindness. I also liked her close relationship with her sister Loveday, who is different in many ways but they have a mutual love and respect for each other. 

A slow burn romance, with a marriage of convenience. I liked that Leith notices Juliet for her management skills, as well as her intelligence. He is touched by her care for his children, but wary of making the mistakes he made with his first wife. 

An engaging read, with likable characters, and an interesting premise with and American heiress travelling to Scotland instead of the other way around. An enjoyable story full of love and sacrifice, that had me hanging on to the very end. Highly recommend!

Daughter of the Rebellion by Jamie Ogle // Review

My Review: 

A historically rich story of love, faith and sacrifice in the days of the early church in ancient Rome. 

Adelgard has fought for her survival since being captured and forced to fight in the arena, gaining a strong reputation as a skilled fighter. Felix doesn't like the Roman pastime of consuming violence for entertainment, but he takes a job applying his skills in healing at the gladiator school and quickly becomes invested in trying to help the enslaved gladiators. 

A little slow to start but picks up speed as we get to know the characters and their plights. Adel fights to survive, dreaming of glory in the arenas, while carrying a secret shame. A well written read, rich in history that brings to life the horror of living as a gladiator in ancient Rome, as well as the life of Telemechus. 

A compelling and gripping read, with thrilling suspense, and rich in history. I enjoyed learning about Telemechus and his life. An entertaining read, with a strong message of faith and trusting God.

Marrying the Matchmaker by Jody Hedlund // Review

My Review: 

The matchmaker meets his match. 

One part fake engagement, one part marriage of convenience, and another enemies to lovers. This mash up of tropes centers on Zaira the middle of the Shanahan clan and Bellamy McKenna the wily matchmaker who has found a match for each of her elder siblings. 

Zaira has a passion fo writing and wants to experience more in life so that she can write about it in her books. Meanwhile Bellamy's father is pushing him to find a match for himself. When a lapse in judgement ends up binding the two together in what they believe to be a temporary arrangement, they learn more about each others, their secrets and hearts for others. I liked how they worked together to help a pair of lost children. 

Overall, a quick read, with plenty of banter and chemistry between the characters. A fun addition to the series, and I liked seeing the couples from the previous books and getting an update on how they are doing. An enjoyable read.

Twelve Days and Twelfth Night by Sarah Sundin // Review

My Review: 

A heartwarming and uplighting Christmas tale of hope and new beginnings. 

Maggie Oliver is given no small order when tasked with pulling together a Christmas USO show with little time to spare. I admired her sunny positive attitude and how she met every roadblock with bright determination. Duke Prescott is a former Hollywood actor, burned in a terrible accident while serving his country, scarred and without options in Hollywood, his life feels like a dead end. But an invitation to join Maggie's USO production unexpectedly changes his life. 

A compelling and hopeful read, with likable protagonists and an engaging plot. Maggie has a sunny can-do attitude, and I loved her close relationship and comraderie with her grandfather. I like how Prescott is down to earth and ready to jump right in and help wherever he can. 

A fun fast paced read, with a full cast of wonderful characters and plenty of heart. I loved the creative ways that the Twelve Days of Christmas and the Twelfth Night played into the story. An uplifting and inspiring story of faith and purpose. Highly recommend!

Into a Golden Era by Gabrielle Meyer // Review

My Review: 

If we knew what would happen in our lives, would we change the outcome? 

Ally is a time-crosser living one of her timelines in 1849 trying to make her family's fortune in the California gold rush, and the other timeline in 1929 as a breakout star on the silver screen. She finds that not all is as it appears and though she can't knowingly change her path, it isn't set in stone either. Ally is devoted to both her families not wanting to leave either of them, without securing them some hope for the future. In 1929 she finds herself in a fake relationship with a Hollywood bad boy for the publicity, and in 1849 she finds her family trusting a man with a questionable past. 

Engaging and compelling plot. Ally struggles with the temptation to take control, and learns to trust in God's perfect plan. I liked how there was more to both Spencer and Sam once she got to know them, though both still so different from each other. Hazel and Johnny's friendship was so cute! I liked that both of Ally's fathers were principled and wise men of faith. 

Overall, another fantastic addition to the series, but also a novel that stands well on its own. Plenty of twists and turns throughout, with likable characters, and strong themes of faith. I was very excited to hear that there are more books in this series down the pipeline, and can't wait to read them!

The Gold in These Hills by Joanne Bischof // Review

My Review: 

A reflective character driven split time novel of holding tight and letting go in the mining town of Kenworthy California.

Juniper has not heard from her husband in a long time, she struggles to hold on and keep hope while raising their young daughter in a slowly dying mining town. In the present day, Johnny is going through a difficult divorce and buys a historic house to restore. He stumbles upon information about the previous owners and the weight of their secrets. 

This book has a slower more reflective pace, as both of the main protagonists struggle with perseverance, forgiveness, and second chances. Juniper is strong and supportive of her friend Edie, but also struggles to come to term with her own husband's absence and what it means for their family. Johnny is learning to move on, and let go, even though he didn't want his marriage to end. I liked that he is determined to be the dad his kids need, and try to move forward with co-parenting with his ex. 

Overall, a more character driven and reflective read, the first split time novel I've read from this author. It takes a little more time, but you do feel like you get to know the characters well through their humanity, struggles in faith, and resilience. Beautifully written journey of faith, hope and accepting second chances.

Night Falls on Predicament Avenue by Jaime Jo Wright // Review

My Review: 

A death at 322 Predicament Avenue awakens stories of other haunting tragedies that happened within its walls. 

A haunting story of two women split by time, trying to get to the bottom of the disturbing events that happened decades apart. In the present-day Norah finds an unlikely friend in a true crime history podcaster and his daughter, as disturbing details emerge. While in 1910 Effie James wants to know what her sister saw on Predicament Avenue has taken a toll on her and left her fighting for her life. A British stranger with an odd tale comes to their small Iowa town looking for answers as well. What truths will they discover?  

A mysterious and riveting tale, that unwinds into an explosive ending. I found both timelines engaging, filled with faith and a search for truth. Effie envies the bravery of her bolder sister, Polly. But I liked how she find her own type of courage. 

Overall, there are so many twists and turns, making the story so hard to put down. Compelling storylines, and suspense to keep you on your toes. A thoroughly enjoyable and haunting read.

A Lady's Handbook to Gadgets and Guile by Angela Bell /// Review

My Review: 

A delightful return to the steampunk world from the pen of Ms. Bell. 

Margaret Kingsley is the behind-the-scenes genius creating all sorts of gadgets for the Daughters of Genius (a.k.a. D.O.G.), an elite team of covert investigators. Her area of expertise is needed at the frontlines in regard to a case investigating patent theft. Margaret is clever and independent despite her ability difference, she hates to feel a burden to others and has trouble letting people in beyond her parents. 

Charles Noble is a gifted former musical prodigy who gave up his dreams to take care of his family when they needed him. Now he works as a clerk, but has taken on organizing an event for a prestigious inventor. Charles is a faithful son, never begrudging his family the personal sacrifices he had to make for them. I liked that he is confident about his attraction to Margaret and sees her as the brilliant woman that she is. 

A fast paced and fun read, with humorous acronyms and touches of steam punk magical realism. I liked how supportive of Margaret her parents are, as well as her friends at the D.O.G. Margaret and Charles are strong likable characters anchored by their faith. An entertaining and enjoyable read, full of adventure. Absolutely delightful read. I'm excited to read more in the series. Highly recommend!

A heartwarming romance that you can cheer for throughout. 

Wade Sawyer has lived constantly being beat down by his overbearing father, and I admired him for living out his faith even when it was hard. Abby lived her life among the natives for years, but when her people are massacred, she feels incredibly lost and torn between two worlds, longing for the simpler ways of the tribe. Can she trust the gentle rancher who is carving a place into her heart? 

Wade is an admirable man, doing his best to honor his father and live his faith. I liked that Abby stands up for herself and isn't afraid to say things how they are. The bad guys were just so wicked in this story, I didn't really enjoy reading the parts that were in their heads. 

Overall, this was an enjoyable read with likable characters, great plot, and a sweet romance. I liked the strong themes of family, faith and forgiveness.

I try to write books I love, and I re-read my own books. I’m a big re-reader and if I find myself uninterested in a book I wrote, I take that as a bad sign.

I happen to LOVE Wildflower Bride as much as any book I’ve ever written.

I wrote for ten years before I got my first book published. On that fateful day when I earned my first contract, I had twenty finished books on my computer. And I didn’t just write them and move on. I’d go back (re-reading even then) and polish them. I took stand alone books and shortened them, lengthened them. Turned them into series, saved all versions in case an editor wanted a series or did NOT want a series.

Each book well, not ALL twenty of them, but a whole bunch, had about nine versions, all saved separately. Love Inspired length, trade fiction length, series, stand alone. I kept them all. But when I felt like I’d really improved one of them, I went back to the other versions and made those same improvements. I did a LOT of writing within those twenty books.

Wildflower Bride was the first book I wrote from scratch after I signed a contract for it. Maybe for this reason, I especially love it. I took everything I knew, everything I learned and put it into this book. I remember staring at that blank page…I had about six books published by this time…and holding my hand flat on the computer screen and praying, God help me to remember everything I’ve learned.

The hero is Wildflower Bride is the villain in Montana Rose. He is wretched. But to me, he was a broken man. My editor, when I told her Wade was the hero, said, “I can’t imagine it, but go for it.”

He is saved at the end of Montana Rose. A young Christian trying to do right in the face of enormous pressure from his powerful, abusive father, in The Husband Tree, and a sad, lonely, but strong man, still growing in his faith at the same time he’s very solid in it, in Wildflower Bride.

I just loved him.

I love the wild beginning of Wildflower Bride, the heroine is an adult woman taken in by an Indian tribe at the age of ten when they find her, alone in a cabin, with her family all dead from a fever. She loves the people who saved her.

Then people start trying to save her from the tribe and she is insulted and wants no part of this new world when her small band of native family is killed in a massacre. Again, she survives.

Abby, she only vaguely remembers her birth name, fits nowhere. And she’s so at home in the wilderness she’s planning to live on her own, somewhere.

Wade falls desperately in love with the strength he finds in her.

These two need each other so badly, but Abby is a hard one to convince she should spend her life with Wade.

Then Abby finds that one of her family, an older brother who didn’t come west with her family, is alive and living nearby.

The way they discover each other, well, I just love it. Wade is starting to look pretty good compared to the grouchy, quick to swing a fist, brother. Still, she begins to remember her big brother, and she remembers loving him. Abby is a confused woman.

Can Abby find her place anywhere in the world? Can Wade find enough backbone to stand up to his father…so far he’d just cut him out of his life. But Pa needs him even if he’s too awful to admit it. Wade’s pa needs God, too.

And those evil men who destroyed her village, haven’t gone away and they want more from Wade and Abby than anyone can imagine. They have to be stopped and Abby and Wade have to find a way to work together to stop them.

The Lost Story of Via Belle by Melanie Dobson // Review

My Review: 

A dual timeline novel full of mystery, betrayal, faith, and unexpected friendship. 

 This captivating novel follows inspirational author Via Belle in the 1940's who after a successful career disappears. In 2006 it follows aspiring screenwriter Harper Rayne, as she learns more about the life of the mysterious author and her life. 

 A well written novel that draws you in with likable characters and a compelling storyline, that slowly reveals something more sinister underneath, culminating into an explosive conclusion. Engaging and full of twists and turns, I wasn't sure how all the pieces were going to fit together in the end. Olivia, Izzy, and Harper are all intelligent and strong women. I liked how Olivia wove her faith into her novels, and how they inspired and encouraged the other women and many others. It was fun looking back at the links in the modern day after some of the reveals. 

 Overall, a beautifully written book, perfect for fans of Christian fiction. The beginning is slower paced, but no less well done as it lays the scene. I loved the explosive ending and the strong themes of faith that bound them together. Mysterious and compelling, a novel you won't soon forget. Highly recommend.

Daughters of the Wreckage by Stephanie Koens // Review

My Review: 

A dual timeline novel that digs into the history of the 1628 tragedy of the Batavia mutiny and wreck. 

 A slow-moving novel, that started to pick up at the halfway point. The story follows Saskia, Aris, and then Tess in the present day. Tess is an English teacher who takes time off after the death of her father to finish his last work. She spends time on the dig site and draws close to one of her guides, Drew. Saskia is travelling with her aunt and cousin for Batavia to meet up with her uncle, while Aris is the talent young under surgeon aboard the ship. 

 This was a slow and difficult read for me, there wasn't much character interaction between Saskia and Aris until quite a ways into the book. The modern-day thread following Tess didn't really catch my attention, as it was pretty slow moving and I wasn't sold on the romance between Tess and Drew. It was nice getting to know the characters, and I liked the gritty realistic nature of the recounting of the event and faith journey. The second half of the book was quite gruesome, and sad, while things were not happening explicitly on page, it was talked about and we had an idea of what was happening and the horrors being faced.

 In the end, it was interesting to learn about a historical even that I had known very little about prior to reading this book, and it inspired me to look into it more on my own. I appreciated Saskia's faith and her friendship with Lucretia. But it was a hard read. Sad. Tragic. Horrible. Slow in the first half of the book and in Tess's parts of the story. This was just not a book that fit my personal tastes, and that happens sometimes.

Belle Tanner is a tough rancher, a mother of three with one on the way, and three dead husbands in the ground. She doesn't think much of men having out-lived three lazy husbands. But one man could change her mind. 

A well-paced read, with a lot going on as it goes back and forth between two main story lines. Silas is a hardworking man, who honestly wins the trust of Belle's daughters, and feels protective towards them. It also continues to follow Wade from the previous book, as he helps Glowing Sun return to her people. There's a lot going on, as Belle has a lot of plate spinning, and I liked how Cassie and Red have befriended Wade, and how they encourage him in his new life. 

Overall, an entertaining read, with likable characters and an engaging plot. Humorous and fast-moving, with a romance that will win you over. Great interaction and a fun plot brought a smile to my face. Well worth the read.

Or, if I get asked, which is your favorite character…someone inevitably says Belle Tanner.

There’s something about that woman.

The title of the book is based on the tree where she’s buried three worthless husbands. After Anthony died falling off the roof…where he was hiding from work as usual, she’s tossing dirt on his face while vowing to God and her children to never marry again.
