What I'm Reading ~ Weekend

Firethorn (Discarded Heroes)

Hey ya'll! It feels like a long time since I sat down and did one of these posts, mainly because I skipped out of town last weekend, but don't you fear I'll be here all winter long! But now on to the books :)

First up, I'm reading Firethorn. And let me say that this one starts off with a bang, and will have you holding on tight! I'm excited to say that I will be reviewing this one on Monday and then, on Tuesday I will be giving away a copy right here on my blog. The author generously gave me an extra copy, so I'm happy to be passing this on to my readers :)

Here's the blurb: Don your tactical gear and enter the world of black ops and espionage within the pages of Ronie Kendig’s thriller Firethorn. Former Marine Griffin “Legend” Riddell, a fugitive from injustice, finds it difficult to trust anyone. Covert operative Kazi Faron, the woman sent to free him, has a dangerous secret that may jeopardize her life, mission, and the only man she respects. As Griffin and Kazi race around the globe to save Nightshade, the danger mounts. Will they find the culprit sabotaging their black ops team? Can their newfound feelings and trust survive when Griffin and Kazi face truth and terror?

Pirate of My Heart: A NovelI'm also working on Jamie Carie's Pirate of My Heart, there's a little bit of love at first sight stuff going on, but it is very well written and keeps one engaged :)

Here's the blurb: When her doting father dies, Lady Kendra Townsend is given a choice: marry the horrid man of her cold, money-grubbing uncle's choosing or leave England to risk a new life in America with unknown relatives. Armed with the faith that God has a plan for her, Kendra boards a cargo ship and meets American sea captain Dorian Colburn. But the captain has been wounded by a woman before and guards his independent life. A swashbuckling man doesn't need an English heiress to make him slow down, feel again, or be challenged with questions about his faith-or so he thinks. It is not until Dorian must save Kendra from the dark forces surrounding her that he decides she may be worth the risk.

Where Wildflowers Bloom
I'm really looking forward to reading Where Wildflowers Bloom, the main character's name is Faith, and often as gifts I get books with a main character named Faith, because Faye is just my nickname. And to make a long story short that's how I got introduced to Julie Lessman's A Passion Most Pure. :D

Here's the blurb: The War Between the States stole a father and brother from Faith Lindberg-- as well as Royal Baxter, the man she wanted to marry. With only her grandfather left, she dreams of leaving Noble Springs, Missouri, and traveling west to the Oregon Territory to start a new life, away from the memories that haunt her. But first she must convince her grandfather to sell the family's mercantile and leave a town their family has called home for generations.
When Royal Baxter suddenly returns to town, Faith allows herself to hope that her dreams might come true. Does he truly love her? Or could another man claim her heart? Will she find that following her dreams may not mean leaving home after all?
Four Letter Words: Conversations on Faith's Beauty and LogicThe characters in Where Wildflowers Bloom jump off the page and into the reader's heart. Author Ann Shorey infuses her characters with the virtues and quirks that bring them fully alive as they search for contentment and love.

And last of all I'm reading a very interesting book by the title of Four Letter Words and no the words aren't exactly what they sound like! The four letter words they are talking about are words like True & Hope. A very interesting read :)

Here's the blurb: Thou shalt tolerate every opinion... except the Christian’s. Today’s postmodern “prime directive” leaves many followers of Jesus tongue-tied. In the global village, isn’t it unreasonable—and even dangerous—to suggest that the Bible has a monopoly on truth?
The church needs a new breed of Christ-follower. We need Christ-followers who are alert to today’s touchy ideas—the truths that fire up more heat than light. We need Christ-followers who can make a clear case for the Bible’s worldview; who are ready to help our friends think through their beliefs; who can recognize inconsistencies and challenge them; and who can do all of this with humility, confidence, humor, and love.

When the questions are hard and the answers unpopular, will you stay devoted to Christ?

Are you ready to speak the truth even when your friends roll their eyes, take offense, or walk away? There has never been a creed more life-giving and logical than the biblical, Christian worldview. Four Letter Words helps you say so with courage, compassion, and grace.

So what are you reading? I'd love to hear about it. And have an amazing weekend!

  2. Yes, indeed I do!
That sounds exciting, I love the cover on Summer of Promise, because I have been to Ft. Laramie twice and it was a fun place to visit :)
And how exciting! I'm sure anything by Jill Williamson will be fantastic!
Thanks, I was so ready for spring! The funny thing is that right after I posted the new backround we got our first real snow of the year a whopping 7 inches!
    Thanks for stopping by :)

  3. Hi Faye! I'm interested in reading your review of "Pirate of My Heart" :-) I did a little "love at first sight" from John's perspective in the story I'm writing, but I tried to balance it out by showing his exasperation at himself.

I'm reading "Surrender the Heart" by Marylu Tyndall, "The Huguenot Sword" by Shawn Lamb, and "The Scarlet Pimpernel" (classic). I haven't gotten very far into them because the story I'm working on is taking up a lot of my time right now, but so far they are holding my interest. :-)

  4. Yes, balancing it out is a great idea :) And the way a book goes after the "love at first sight" can make or break it. I'm excited to see how the characters in Pirate of My Heart deal with it and how it goes :D

Oh, how exciting. Can you believe that I've never read anything by Ms. Tyndall, though I have three of her books on my TBR pile! The Huguenot Sword sounds interesting :)

Excited to see how your blog story ends!

    Have a great weekend!
