Lucie's Review:
The lovely prequel to the best-selling Red River of the North Series follows 21 year old Ingeborg Strand is convinced that she will be a spinster, until she meets a rich student from Oslo
who may just change her mind. But just as everything starts to fall into place, everything falls apart again.
Then Roland Bjorklund and his young son come in her life, Roland is hardworking and honest, but can she love him?
Set in the beautiful mountains of Norway, I was swept away by the attention to detail and lush descriptions of the scenery. I was most fascinated by the descriptions of life in Norway during that time period and what it was like to have grow up there, and how vastly different it is from Norway today.
There were times this book was hard to read, because pretty much every that could go wrong for poor Ingeborg, did. Though she was a kind, spirit and it was interesting to see Ingeborg and Roland and how they met.
The trouble with prequels is that you do know more of what is going to happen and how it is going to end up, so I really can't been too surprised that the plot was a bit predictable. Yet I did enjoy this book much more than I had anticipated, it's hard not to love a book set in such a lovely country.
Overall, a lovely sequel to Ms. Snelling's best-selling series!
