The Pelican Bride by Beth White ~ Review

The Pelican Bride (Gulf Coast Chronicles, #1)

Lucie's Review:

Rich in history with a full cast of intriguing characters, both real and fictional.

Genevieve and her sister board a ship to become mail order brides to the rough men of Canada, in order to escape the religious persecution in France. When she falls for Tristan Lanier, she finds that not everything is easy in this strange new land of liberty.

Genevieve and Tristan are both strong characters. Though they weren't able to spend much time together, their interactions were meaningful and cemented their attachment.

I admired Genevieve's determination and ingenuity. She was willing to learn, and when to the Indians to learn how to cook with the native foods.

This is a thrilling historical adventure, with a full cast of characters, in a wildly beautiful setting. this book has a lot going for it, and I learned so much about a time and place I don't often get the opportunity to read about. A great read!
