Here's an Update

I don't know about you but I've been pretty busy this summer, working, visiting relatives, attending a cousin's wedding, getting ready for school, going to a Josh Turner concert, spending time with friends, and blogging, I can't believe summer is almost over!

But the impending end of summer isn't all bad, though there are some serious drawbacks, like having to go back to school (for those of you who don't will be completing my second year of Dental Assisting training this coming fall and spring). But there are many perks to it as well, such as the return of my favorite TV shows like Doctor Who for one ;) It will be a busy nine months to say the least, as I will be juggling my part-time job, school, AWANA, blogging, choir, and hopefully still making time for friends and reading :)

As far as I know I will still be blogging, but right now I'm playing it my ear, as I've already got a handful of titles set for review this September as well as a fun giveaway that may be in the works :)

So in anticipation of my future crazy schedule I am challenging myself to a 12hr reading challenge to see how many books I can knock off of my currently-reading pile, would you believe that I am in the middle of 5 right now?

I will post an update sometime during the challenge and then again afterwards. Tomorrow you will probably see some reviews as a result :)

Happy Monday!

Hey there! I've been thinking about how long it's been since I just slowed down and said, "Hi" to all of ya'll, and it's been a long time!

School's been going good, I've been suffering through Calculus, and I can tell you right now that I'm not going to be taking a second year of it. And I'm really enjoying learning about government this year, especially with the elections taking place this fall. It's been cool learning about how it works and why we have some of the quirks in our government that we do, most of them are the result of compromises, some good some bad.

Our Easter break from AWANA began this last Wednesday, and it will be strange not having it this next week. We just finish up a huge fundraiser to sponsor children in wartorn countries, and we'll know if it was a sucess when AWANA starts up again.

I've been keeping busy, "reading as always," as my friends like to joke. The other day our family went down a few miles south to pick up a cow. A dead cow in the form of meat, that is. Because we like our beef grassfed. Natural. Well, since we bought a cow, we had to buy a new freezer, and what an adventure that was! Not the kind of adventure that you might suppose but it involved alot of mind changing and going to tons of Home Inprovement stores. But now our meat is safe and sound.

Enough about that.

Besides that my brother has discovered a new favorite song, something that he tends to do on a bi-weekly basis. Here's a look at his favorite song, as a country music fan I totally "get" this parody, it made be laugh so hard I had to watch it twice. It's a spoof on Jason Aldean's hits Dirt Road Anthem & Big Green Tractor.

Besides that hmmm...I haven't been up to all that much. What about you?

Inspired by fairy tales

I always loved fairy tales as a child. My mother would red, and re-read Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin, Sleeping Beauty, Jack and the Beanstalk, Beauty and the Beast, The Snow Queen, etc. to me every night. You name it I've probably heard it. (Though I had a strong dislike for Scandinavian fairy tales, which always seemed gruesome with somebody always cutting off some body part with out thinking twice). Fairy tales inspired me to write fiction, because that's what fairy tales were, made up stories. I loved writing my own fairy tales, where the princes and princesses were professional private eyes, or where a prince was in search of a princess but fell in love with and married a princess's lady-in-waiting instead. Most of all I liked the romance. How right after the two people met, they knew right off that they were right for each other, and would endure flaming trials together by each other's sides. What I liked most about fairy tales was that they were made up and I could create my own realm full of made up people. I even tried to rewrite a fairy tale. Here is an excerpt from  my attempt (which I have not picked up since I was 12), of Sleeping Beauty.

I slowly opened my sleep laden eyelids, blinking back the sudden brilliance of light that assaulted my sensitive eyes. I blinked again, and again, until finally the room came into focus. My room. The once lavender walls were now faded and covered in...dust? Surely I hadn't slept that-
"Fair Maiden," I sat bolt upright, and whirled towards the voice. "Fair maiden, I have broken the evil enchantment that has entrapped you and your family for 100 years, I have fought wild beasts and angry peasants alike for the privilege of rescuing you and kissing your lips."
He'd done what! Suddenly, I felt like spitting.
I turned my attention to the speaker, he was about my age, probably tall, but I couldn't tell because of the fact that he was kneeling beside my bed. His mouth moved animatedly as he spoke, while the sunlight dance of his golden hair. Not only that but he was dressed head to toe in blue velvet. Definitely a prince.
I tried and failed, to disentangle a cobweb from my mud brown hair, trying my best not to think about this velvet clad prince, kissing me. The thought made me shudder.
I tried to rise but then decided not to when I saw the state of my dress, covered with more than 2 inches of dust, and bird droppings. I had the sudden urge to bathe-immediatly.

That's all folks!

P.S. Now I write Christian based stories.

P.P.S. I'm also reading "Beauty Sleep" by Cameron Dokey.

Black belt brother

Okay, today is the day my brother becomes a third degree black belt! Which is a huge accomplishment by the way. He is going to get his own class to teach at the martial arts academy, which is really awesome since he really likes kids. They love him too, something to do with his ultra-cool Justin Bieber-like hair. Just kidding!
Right now I'm reading "Sunlight and Shadow," by Cameron Dokey. It's not a Christian book, it's a re-telling of a fairy tale.
I always loved fairy tales, the heroes were always so romantic and doing brave things. And they were the only kind of story my brother and I could agree to have my mother read to us, as I liked the pretty princesses and their princes, and my brother liked the parts where the hero would kill the dragon or chop off the evil troll's head. Enough said. Brothers like stuff like that.

Ya'll come back now ya hear?
