Patterns of Evidence: Exodus ~ DVD Review and Giveaway

My Review:

In this documentary style exploration of the 2nd book of the Bible, Kevin Sorbo digs deep, interviewing some very well known faces in research and also in today's politics. This was a riveting documentary, that was very well done. I loved how he went to great lengths to show how a restructured timeline fits perfectly with history and the landscape of the land before and after the Israelite's inhabited it.

I loved the way that it was put together, splitting the major time periods into 4 sequential parts that would definitely leave behind evidence.

I've been very interested in Egyptian timelines for a long time, and have heard this proposed shift in the timeline from some other sources in the recent past, so this wasn't entirely new to me, but much of the supporting evidence fresh and intriguing.

This was a very well done production, and I would definitely recommend it to any who is even the slightest bit curious. It is so well done and thoroughly researched, I feel that they made a very strong case for their timeline, and I loved the way it was presented, with all the stunning footage and great content.

About Patterns of Evidence Exodus:
For more than 50 years, the vast majority of the world's most prominent archaeologists and historians have proclaimed that there is no hard evidence to support the Exodus story found in the Bible.  In fact, they say that the archaeological record is completely opposed to the Bible's account.  This view of extreme skepticism has spread from academia to the world.  The case against the Exodus appears to be so strong that even some religious leaders are labeling this ancient account as historical fiction.  Filmmaker Timothy Mahoney begins with the questions, "Is the Bible just a myth, or did the archaeologists get it wrong?"  He decides to tackle this issue wit a deliberate scientific approach.   After examining the details in the biblical text, he journeys across the globe to search for patterns of evidence firsthand.  The result is the most in-depth archaeological investigation into the Exodus from Egypt ever captured on film.   This scientific documentary's goal is to communicate the TRUTH of the Bible and help equip believers with defending their faith and the Bible.

The DVD features stunning animations and a cast including narrator, Kevin Sorbo (God's Not Dead, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys), interviews with leading archaeologists including Israel Finkelstein, Kent Weeks, and David Rohl, and guest appearances by Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu and Shimon Peres.

Among the Fair Magnolias by Tamera Alexander, Shelley Gray, Dorothy Love, and Elizabeth Musser ~ Review

Among the Fair Magnolias: Four Southern Love StoriesLucie's Review:

Four stories that follow strong young women of the South, before and after the war that changed everything. Some of the novellas even revisit some of the settings from the author's previous novels!

A Heart So True: I really liked Abigail Clayton, she is a young woman who tends to defy the society norms, because she has a hard time just sitting about being proper. There are things that she wants to do, but she find herself in a predicament with two men vying for her hand. This was a very good story and I loved the beautiful setting.

To Mend a Dream: This was my favorite of the collection, Savannah Darby is a strong hardworking woman, she cares for her younger siblings, and working. She is sent to her old home to help the new owner, Aiden Bedford and his fiance redecorate. This is a well told story, brimming with mystery, and great dialogue.

Love Beyond Limits:

Emily Derracott is a teacher who teaches freedmen and women, along with another lady who hails from the North. When her childhood friend, Thomas McGinnis returns from the war with his heart set on marrying her, she is hesitant to say the least. I liked that Thomas was a good man, and he knew to give her some space and let her figure things out, while also proving himself as a true friend that was always there for her.

Outlaw's Heart: I really liked Russell Champion and how he treats Nora, the girl that he has always loved. He is always watching out for her, and there for her no matter what.

Overall, a lovely collection of stories, full of faith and family. Great characters and engaging plotlines, I thoroughly enjoyed each one of these lovely stories.

Love on a Deadline by Kathryn Springer ~ Review

Love on a Deadline: An August Wedding Story (A Year of Weddings Novella 2, #9)Lucie's Review:

Engaging, fast-paced, and funny, this short and sweet tale is sure to capture your heart!

Mackenzie Davis grew up around all thing football, because her father was the football coach, but highschool was horrible for her because he next door neighbor, Hollis Channing, picked on her a lot during those years.

Now she's grown up, and returned home to take care of her ailing father, she also works for the local weekly paper. But when her boss tells her that she will be covering the biggest wedding of the summer, that of Hollis Channing and Connor Blake.

Ethan Channing is studying to be a doctor, but he is returning home for his sister's wedding, and he has only 2 weeks to get everything ready for the big day. But he doesn't know the first thing about throwing together a wedding in such a short amount of time, will Mackenzie be willing to give him a hand?

This was a really fun book to read, from the start I really liked Mackenzie and was cheering for her, and I liked how she is willing to help others and has grown a lot form the girl she used to be. I even liked the love story behind Hollis and Connor's wedding and why they chose to get married the way that they are. Connor is a super nice guy.

Overall, a really fantastic, short and sweet read. Definitely one to recommend :)

The Cactus Creek Challenge by Erica Vetsch ~ Review

The Cactus Creek Challenge
Lucie's Review:

Get ready for some major laughs as the townsfolk of Cactus Creek switch jobs and find out how hard the things other people do with ease really are! It's the first time in this town tradition's history that the women are allowed to participate, and this year;s challenge is sure to be a doozy!

This book follows Ben , Cassie, Jenny, and Carl, as they take on each other's jobs for a month. Cassie becomes the town sheriff, Ben becomes the new schoolteacher, while Jenny takes over the livery, and Carl runs the bakery.

Ben quickly discovers that teaching a classroom full of children is much harder than he thought, especially with the rambunctious set of twins that love to give him trouble. But despite his less than enthusiastic attitude, he finds that there are many things that the children can teach him.

I loved how Jenny took one the challenge of running the livery, even though she is quite petite and has never even hitched a wagon up before.

Carl knows that he's out of his element, but he doesn't let that scare him away, as he is open to learning and quickly befriends Jenny's shy little girl.

Cassie has a challenge in front of her, as she must work alongside the deputy, Jigger, a man who doesn't like taking orders for a woman, especially when her first order of business is to clean up the jailhouse!

Overall, a terrific read with a unique and hilarious plot, and fantastic characters who captured my heart and made me smile and cheer right along with them. I loved how they grew and learned. A highly engaging and entertaining read, highly recommend!

Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Beth Vogt ~ Review

Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Destination Wedding #1)Lucie's Review:

Vanessa and Logan were high school sweethearts with the world ahead of them, and a plan to attended Florida state together in the fall. So they get married, but when Logan accepts a full ride scholarship to Oklahoma state instead, they find their new marriage strained, and eventually break it off. Now Vanessa is planning her less than dream come true wedding to ER doctor Ted, and is she is less than excited about the location being in Florida, where she married her first husband Logan. But she finds herself face to face with her ex husband, and reflecting on their time together.
Did she really make the worst mistake of her life when she married the "wrong man" eight years ago?

Vanessa is good at saying hello and saying goodbye, she hasn't had a lot of constants in her life, besides her best friend, Mindy. Mindy and her husband are great friends to Vanessa, and really work to make the relationship work. I love her willingness to help Vanessa, wholeheartedly.

This is a well written and thoughtful read, as it intertwines day to day, with flashes into the past. Engaging from the start, but not your typical romance. It really delves into what if what you thought was your biggest mistake was actually the right thing all along?

Overall, a well told story about a couple that get's a second chance in love, and the choices they made that bring them to where they are today. Highly recommend, it was a fantastic read!

In Good Company by Jen Turano ~ Review

In Good Company (A Class of Their Own, #2)Lucie's Review:

Millie Longfellow is dedicated to self improvement, and carries a dictionary in her pocket, trying to add new words to her vocabulary, often with humorous results.

Everett mulberry is he guardian of three young children that are earning a reputation for being difficult as they have run off every nanny that he has hired so far. He's become so desperate that he hires Millie, a nanny who has been fired by almost every family in town.

The three children are led by the oldest, Elizabeth, who sews their clothing from drapes that even their brother Thaddeus wears. They love Everett, and don't play their tricks on him, but they do target his fiance, Caroline Dixon, likely because she wants to send them to boarding school as quickly as possible.

I loved how Millie won the children over, though her methods were unconventional she gained their respect and trust. Even convincing him to spend more time with them, getting to know them better.

Overall, I loved every minute of this fast paced, adventure from it's laugh out loud hilarious moments, to it's more serious and poignant parts. Filled with friendship and hilarious mishaps. That characters are well done and fit well with the style of storytelling. Highly recommend!

A Heart's Promise by Colleen Coble ~ Review

Heart's Promise, A
Lucie's Review:

The second part of Emmie's journey as she weathers the dangers and discomforts of life on the Fort, not to mention pregnant and with winter coming on fast.

Emmie is living with Sarah and Rand, and helps both Sarah and Amelia as much as she can. Meanwhile, Isaac admires Emmie despite her circumstances, but is unsure if she returns his feelings.

A wonderfully written story set at Fort Phil Kearney set around the time of the infamous Fetterman massacre. It's interesting to read about the Fetterman massacre through the eyes of another, as it has long been a part of my history, my great uncle was John "Portugee" Phillips himself.

Emmie is hardworking and doesn't want to be a burden to those around her. I really liked Isaac, and how was respectful of Emmie's need for space, after all that she has gone through. I loved the returning characters, and how we get to keep up with their lives too.

Overall, I don't want to give too much away, but I look forward to the final installment in this wonderful series by Ms. Coble.

Jack Staples and the Ring of Time by Mark Batterson and Joel N. Clark ~ CFBA Tour and Review

My Review:

It all starts for Jack Staples at the circus, when he sees the high wire act of a mysterious girl called Alexia who wears a red cape and who's dearest fiends are lions. Jack learns that he is not your average 11 year old boy, he is prophesied to bring down the Assassin. With Mrs. Dumprey, Alexia, and his long time friend, Arthur by his side, Jack get's ready for the biggest battle of his life.

A fast paced read, that is well woven and tells an exciting tale. I'll admit that I was rather confused at first, and it took a while to get my bearing,as there was so much going on and multiple characters that I was introduced to in the first few chapters of the book.

But it was a good story with great allegorical threads throughout, I liked the mystery of it all as well as the characters, one of my favorites was probably Arthur, because he was more relatable and the "normal kid" of the group.

Overall, a fun and fast paced read filled with adventure!

Joint Investigation by Terri Reed ~ Review

Joint Investigation (Northern Border Patrol #2)Lucie's Review:

Sami Bennet has been on the trail of a serial killer for months, and has been following the clues on her own, little does she know that the room she enters has been staked out by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police until she is grabbed from behind by Inspector Drew Kelly.

When Drew finds out that Sami is tracking a serial killer, his is determined to stick by her side and help her find the person behind the horror. Sami is reluctant to let drew help her after what happened last time, but as they work together their friendship grows. Will their teamwork help them bring down the killer?

An intense suspense novel, action packed, I would warn some people that the subject matter is a bit darker than other similar books. I loved how Sami and Drew learned to work together.

Overall, a terrific fast paced story, with great characters and plenty of intense moments. Definitely great for fans of thrillers.

The Marriage Agreement by Renee Ryan ~ Review

The Marriage AgreementLucie's Review:

I'm a huge fan of the Charity House series so when this book appeared in my to-read pile, I just couldn't wait to read it! In fact I read it so fast, and enjoyed it so much that I immediately read it a second time through, and it was just as good the second time through.

Fanny and Jonathon work together at the Hotel Dupree, and they quickly find kindred spirits in each other, though they are both hesitant to become more that because of their pasts.

Mrs. Singletary is up to her old matchmaking tricks again, and is hosting her annual charity ball. At the ball when Jonathon's cufflink gets caught in Fanny's hair they are seen, in what many assume to be an intimate embrace, leading to assaults on Fanny's character.

Jonathon offers to marry her to save her reputation, but she refuses. Will they find love after all?

I liked Jonathon he is a a strong man, honorable, and of integrity. He is very much a self made man, and has worked hard for what he has.

Overall, this was a terrific read, I loved the setting, side characters, and how they encouraged Jonathon and Fanny in their faith. I loved the fast paced storyline and riveting characters. Filled with humor, romance, and heart string tugging moments, sure to capture your heart.

Gone Without a Trace by Patricia Bradley ~ Review

Gone Without a Trace (Logan Point, #3)Astor's Review:

It's been two years since the disappearance of homicide detective Livy Reynold's cousin, Robyn, from Logan's Point.

PI Alex Jennings contacts Livy about a missing senator's daughter, who's disappearance has mysterious similarities to Robyn's.

Will Alex and Livy be able to work together to solve the mystery and get justice?

A fast paced, non-stop adventure, taunt with tension, that I didn't want to put down! I don't want to give too much away, but this was sure a page turner, and while part of a series, it does stand well on it's own.

It's book about facing fears, and stepping out in faith. I loved the dynamic between Alex and Livy, and while they weren't instant best friends or anything like that, their friendship grew and they learned to depend on each other.

Overall, a terrific read that I couldn't put down. I would definitely recommend this read for fans of action and suspense reads! Highly recommend!

The Curiosity Keeper by Sarah Ladd ~ Review

The Curiosity Keeper (Treasures of Surrey, #1)Lucie's Review:

Camille Iverness does what she must to keep the little curiosity shop open, from keeping the books to standing up to bullies. It helps that she has a fiercely loyal canine companion, Tevy.

Jonathan Gilehrist is the village apothecary, and even though he comes from a wealthy family and is the heir to Kettering Hall, prestige in social circles has never been something he's grasped at. So Jonathan is surprised when his father tells him that their family will loose the hall if they do not recover the ruby that has been stolen and is rumored to process strange properties.

Jonathan is an honourable man, with simple dreams, though he will do anything for his family and those who need the help.

Camille struggles to trust since her mother left so many years ago, and never came back. Now she is challenged to trust Jonathan whose assistance is a blessing to be sure.

I loved how they got to know each other while working together and unraveling the multifaceted mystery, involving the ruby.

Overall this was a well done read, that was at times touching, surprising and romantic. A terrific tale from Ms. Ladd that will not disappoint!

Brides of the Old West by Peggy Darty, Darlene Franklin, Sally Laity, Nancy Lavo, and Kathleen Paul ~ Review

Brides of the Old West: Five Romantic Adventures from the American Frontier
Lucie's Review:

Five full length novels for the price of one.

In Morning Mountain, Suzanne finds Luke after he's been shot, she takes him home and nurses him back to health.

I liked how Blanche takes a chance in A Bride's Rogue in Roma Texas, when stranger Ike Gallagher shows up with  a message from her father. Blanche goes on the riverboat and learns how to pilot it along the way, as well as finds a new friend in Effie.

Amanda and Sarah Jane join a wagon train in Valiant Heart even though the wagon master tells them that they cannot come along. I loved the way the Randolph's took the girls in under their wing.

Lessons in Love was one of my favorites. Deborah travels to Texas with her little brother, Case, in order to make a new life where Case can have a normal childhood. Luke a friend of their uncle's comes by to check on them and ends up staying to help them out. Luke becomes a fast friend, and quickly bonds with Case and Deborah. I liked how she taught Luke to read from the Bible.

To See His Way is another favorite, and one of the most adventure packed and humor filled of them all. Tildie wants to keep her cousins, after her aunt dies in a wagon accident. They are taken in by the Indians, and they befriend Jan Borjesson who has been trying to share Jesus with the Indians.

Overall, five amazing historical romances packed into one terrific volume. You really can't go wrong with this one, filled with fantastic characters and plenty of romance.

Now and Forever by Mary Connealy ~ Review

Now and Forever (Wild at Heart, #2)Lucie's Review:

Matt Tucker, a strong and courageous mountain man, comes barreling down the mountain while being chased by a bear, collides into Shannon Masterson. Though she is dressed like one--Shannon is definitely not a man.
Shannon pushes them both off of a cliff to save them from the bear, but what she doesn't know is that she has just plunged them in the most treacherous stretch of Slaughter River.
Will they survive this unexpected adventure, and find something equally as unexpected along the way.

Over the course of the adventure, Tucker and Shannon are forced to work together to find their way out. Tucker is ever the gentleman, despite his gruff exterior. There was great dialogue between the characters as well as as the wonderful side characters introduced, like Sunrise. Sunrise is an Indian woman who was once married to a mountain man who was never home, and life with him was often a lonely one.

Overall, this is a terrific read, fast paced, and humor-filled, it makes for an adventure that you won't want to put down. Excellent to the end, you'll want to hold onto your seat for this one!
