Her Rancher Bodyguard by Brenda Minton ~ Review

Her Rancher Bodyguard (Martin's Crossing #5)
Lucie's Review:

Boone Wilder isn't too excited about his newest job. He isn't a babysitter, and he is far from thrilled to be tasked with protecting city girl, Kayla Stanford. But as he begins to realize that there is more to the job than he has been told, and as things escalate Boone is forced to bring her home to Martin's Crossing.

Kayla is the Martin's half-sister, she often breezes in and out of their lives, but they always welcome her with open arms, and accept her for who she is. Kayla isn't sure what she wants any more, and as the gravity of her situation sinks in, she begins to wonder if there is another plan bier than what she plotted for herself.

I loved Boone's family, he has 6 siblings at home, and his parents are more than willing to welcome one more. The twins especially love having Kayla around for her sense of fashion. His mother, Maria, also quickly takes her under her wing.

Boone is a strong man, of deep commitment, faith, and dedication. I loved his interactions with Kayla, and how his attitude towards Kayla changes throughout the book as does her perspective on her life. This is a fast paced read filled with adventure, mystery, and suspense, and nearly impossible to put down. You won't want to miss this!

Sins of the Past by Dee Henderson, Dani Pettrey & Lynette Eason ~ Review

Sins of the PastLucie's Review:

Missing finds Police Chief John Graham dropping everything to he finds that his mother has gone missing. He flies to Chicago, his hometown, and meets with Sharon Noble, the detective assigned to his mother's case.

Sharon is dedicated to the case, and knows that John wants to be useful, so she let's him be a part of the investigation, and gives him tasks to help move the case along.

I loved John's strong faith and his concern and care for his mother. This is a fast paced police drama, that follows John and Sharon as they search for answers, and learn to trust and respect one another.

In Shadowed, set in 1979, Ben McKenna takes Libby Jennings out on his charter boat off the coast of Alaska to see the whales. It doesn't bother Libby that she is the only one who showed up for the tour.

Libby is a competitive swimmer, in town for a race, and she wants to soak up as much of the beautiful scenery as she can. But while they are out on the tour, they come across the body of one of the other swim competitor's, a swimmer named, Kat.

Set during the Cold War, this is a action packed read filled with murder, mystery, spies, romance, and faith. I loved how it brought back the McKenna family, and the interaction between Libby and Ben. A great bonus to the McKenna Saga.

In Blackout, when Chad Latham hears his neighbor, Macey's, scream he knows something is wrong, and vaults the fence. He get's there right in the nick of time to protect her, and as a witness and police detective, he makes Macey's case his top priority.

Macey is an EMT and she's been trying to let go of her past for 6 years. Chad has been wanting to get to know Macey since they became neighbors, and he is quick to offer his support. His faith is strong, and they work together to figure out the puzzle of her past and what it means for her future.

A riveting story with fantastic characters, and a heartpounding mystery, with great interaction. it made for a page turning read. A terrific read through and through, each story stands on it's own, and it's a must read for the Christian Suspense fan in your life!

Like Never Before by Melissa Tagg ~ Review

Like Never Before (Walker Family, #2)
Lucie's Review:

Widowed speech-writer, Logan Walker is on the verge of making a career leap into the forefront of politics, but when he inherit's a small town newspaper his dreams are about to take a detour. He plans to sell the newspaper and continue on towards his dreams, but he wasn't planning on meeting Amelia Bentley.

Maple Valley is home to Amelia, it's where she rebuilt her life after tragedy and found joy in her job as the editor of the local paper. But now with Logan wanting to sell it, she is determined to find a big scoop on a story that will save the paper.

Will Logan and Amelia find common ground and possibly a future together?

I love Maple Valley, Iowa, sure the people are prone to gossip, but they also care for one another, and will rejoice with each other in their victories, and mourn with them in their losses. The townspeople are resilient, and nothing can keep them from a town event, not even a blizzard.

I loved the interaction between Logan and Amelia, they quickly end up on opposite sides of the Save the Paper debate, but they also find that they can talk to each other, in a way that they haven't connected to another person in a long time.

I really liked Logan's dad, Case, and how he asks Logan about his spiritual condition, and doesn't judge his honest answer, assuring him that God can still find him. Case also encourages Amelia in her faith as well.

I like how the book also tells the story that Amelia finds, weaving it into the story, and Logan and Amelia work together to solve the mystery, and complete the story.

Logan is smart, good with words, compassionate, loves his daughter. Amelia is passionate about the people of Maple Valley, and chasing down a good story. I really resonated with Amelia's heartache, and why it haunted her for years.

Overall, a wonderful story, I loved the strong sense of community, and how all of the characters interacted. There is faith, family, mystery, and romance in this captivating read. I loved the themes of reconnecting with their faith, and finding a second chance at family. Highly recommend!

Bride of a Distant Isle by Sandra Byrd ~ Review

Bride of a Distant Isle (Daughters of Hampshire, #2)My Review:

Annabel Ashton enjoys her life as a teacher at an all girls school, and believes her trip home to be but for a visit, but when her cousin informs her that they can no loner afford for her to teach, and that she must contribute to the family and make an advantageous match--preferably to Edward's friend, Mr. Morgan.

Annabel has little say in her life, born out of wedlock to a woman committed to an insane asylum, she  is often reminded of the unspeakable fact of her history. But while at Highcliffe mysterious items begin to appear among her belongings, leading Annabel to question what she has been told of her heritage.

Meanwhile Edward is encouraging her to befriend Captain Dell'Acqua, a man who like her, shares both English and Maltese heritage.

Who can Annabel trust as she discovers that she may have a claim on her cousin's inheritance?

Ms. Byrd swept me away with Annabel's story, as she fights to learn the truth about her mother and who her father was. I liked the gothic feel to the novel that brings to mind classics like Jane Eyre, a novel of romance and mystery, and not all is as it seems, Annabel must lean on her faith to unravel the tangled web of her past.

Captain Marco Dell'Acqua is a man of two countries, but neither is one that he can call home, and so the sea is where he finds that he finally fits in. He is handsome, and a thoughtful businessman, with a natural charm and way with the ladies.

Overall, a wonderful tale that took me beyond the shores of England, giving me a taste for the exotic Malta and its treasures. I liked Annabel, she is strong of mind, and presents herself bravely in the light of all that she has endured. She is spunky, at times unconventional, and longs for a connection to her late mother. This is a swift moving read, filled with intrigue, mystery, romance, conspiracy, and plenty of tension. You will not want to put down this engrossing read, filled with a full cast of characters that bring to life the gothic tale. Highly recommend!

Great Stories of the Bible by David Miles ~ Review

Great Stories of the Bible
My Review:

Six easy-to-read I Can Read: Level 2 books all in one volume!

Share the Great Stories of the Bible, with the young people in your life in a format that they can read for themselves. Watch them read for themselves the example's of God's perfect plan and providence, through Adam and Eve, Ruth and Naomi, and the power of faith as they read about The Blazing Furnace, The Miracles of Jesus, and the love we ought to show others in the parables of the Lost Son, and Good Samaritan.

Bound in a durable hardcover volume, this is a book that is made with children in mind, it has brightly colored illustrations, that are a lovely complement, and very expressive.

Overall, this is a wonderful value, and at the end of each story there is a section where it talks about what lessons we can take from each example, backed up by scripture. Definitely a wonderful tool for teaching and sharing with young children. Highly recommend this easy to read compilation.

Someone Like You
Lucie's Review:

Julia Dare is starting out fresh.  She's left behind a bad relationship, and begun and new one with Jesus, she's starting her own business, and is ready to reach for the stars!

Will Julia be up to the challenge, even when faces from the past taunt her?

I loved Zeke and Julia's friends and family, like George Travers, a famous Country Music Star, who has made his share of mistakes in his life, but through his faith, he has turned his life around. George is a good friend and mentor of sorts to Zeke, and he encourages him to lean on God's grace.

Ellen Dare, Julia's mother, is a strong woman of faith, and is a Godsend to Julia and her young son, Max. I loved her care for Max, and how she encourages Julia, and let's her know that her dreams of bettering her and Max's lives are worth it.

There are moments of humor as well in this book, and several involving a certain goat by the name of Ladybug.

Overall, a wonderful read, engaging, and fast paced, I loved all the many characters, and how it not only explores Zeke and Julia, but George and Ellen as well. I admired Julia for her strength, wisdom and determination. Highly recommend this utterly enjoyable story.

I enjoyed the interaction between Julia and Zeke and how they got to know each other again, and discover how much the other has grown and changed through the years. I liked Zeke, he is a good man and he cares about his employees. He struggles with coming to terms with how he was in college, and wants something better. Julia is serious about turning her life around, an living her faith. She is gifted with a strong sense of motivation and a listening ear, and I admired her strong love for her son.

Her One and Only by Becky Wade ~ Review

Her One and Only (Porter Family, #4)Lucie's Review:

Dru is the youngest of the Porter clan, she grew up in the shadow of her three brothers, and always felt that she had to compete to fit in. She spent some time in the Marines and now is an executive protection agent, tasked with protecting Foot Ball Player, Gray Fowler, who has recently been receiving threats.

Gary doesn't like that his bodyguard is a woman, so he insists that Dr pretend to be his girlfriend. But Dru isn't interested in being other one on a long list of short term flings, even if it's all...pretend?

Dru has become a Christian, and it's important to her, and she let's Gray know where she stands. She's still struggling with mistakes in her past, but she is honest about where she is at, and I like that.

Gray is a good football player, and he works hard, plays hard. He's has had a tough childhood, and he often let's it color his perceptions.

I really liked how this book keeps up with the whole Porter Clan, especially Meg and Bo, and their sweet miracle. I love how their love has matured, and they still think the world of each other.

I love the camaraderie and warmth of Porter family reunions, they are always teasing, but always there for each other in the end. And the dialog is well done and engaging throughout.

Overall, a well written read that I couldn't put down, excellent romantic tension and intriguing characters that I grew to love. I love how Dru is a strong heroine, who puts others first. And ray really grew on me throughout the story. A fantastic conclusion to the Porter Family Series, a must read for fans of this remarkable family!

Seaside Secrets by Dana Mentink ~ Review

Seaside Secrets (Pacific Coast Private Eyes, #2)
Lucie's Review:

Angela Gallaher and Dr. Dan Blackwater served together in Afghanistan, and despite only meeting a few times, Dan recognizes her instantly.

Angela comes to Cobalt Cove in order to meet the brother of the man who saved her life while she was serving as a Navy Chaplain, now she is back in the states, but she is struggling with guilt and PTSD, wondering if she can continue as a chaplain.

Dan is a man of action and faith, he goes into a burning car and saves a girl before it blows up. He is a man of compassion and great understanding, he insists upon accompanying Angela on her search for Tank, and is determined to keep her safe and get to the bottom of things.

But with danger drawing nearer, will they be able to find the truth, while keeping their heads above water?

I liked Dan alot, he is very courageous he sticks by Angela's side through everything, making it his responsibility to be there for her. Dan knows how to encourage her and sees the best in her, even when she doesn't. Dan isn't perfect though, and he has his own scars from his time in Afghanistan, and comes to see his own purpose more throughout the course of this book.

This was a fast-paced read that I just couldn't put down, full of action and a multi-faceted mystery to uncover. I liked the gracious and hopeful way that Angela's struggles were portrayed and the interaction between Angela and Dan.

Overall, a fantastic read, with rich character growth. I admired how Angela never gave up or retreated even though she wanted to. A worthy read from beginning to end, and satisfying to the last. Definitely worth your time.

A Flight of Arrows by Lori Benton ~ Review

A Flight of Arrows (The Pathfinders, #2)Lucie's Review:

The second in a historical family saga, and the relationships formed in the first book are tested in this emotional read. I would definitely recommend reading The Woods Edge before diving into this one, because it is heavily dependent on continuing the stories introduced in the first book, and would be very challenging as a stand alone.

Two Hawks is a an honorable man, of duty, and faith, he sees that he can no longer pursue his relationship with Anna, without her father, Reginald Aubrey's consent. But Aubrey harbors ill feelings towards Two Hawks, who is the twin brother of the boy that he took into his home and raised as his son, William.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much Two Hawks' father Stone Thrower has grown and matured in his faith that he found in the previous book, and how much I came to respect him over the course of this story, and he actually became my favorite character!

I liked the strong women in this book, like Good Voice and Lydia, who live out their faith and seek to be peacemakers.

I liked the historical aspect of this book and highlights the role that the Native Indians played on both sides of the Revolutionary War, in shows the heartaches, and the great cost, and how it split them apart.

This book also follows William who struggles to come to terms with his true parentage, and realizes that he may be on the wrong side of the war.

Strikes The Water is a new face, and I like her spunk, she knows how to take care of herself, and is a strong young woman.

Anna struggles with her heart, and devotion to the one she loves, and the only father she has ever known.

Overall, a very poignant second chapter in this compelling family saga set during the Revolutionary War. I would highly recommend to fans of strong historical sagas. Well worth reading, and I liked watching the characters as they grow, mature, and change  during this time of turmoil.

If the Prospect Pleases by Sally Laity & The Mountain's Son by Gloria Brandt ~ Review

If the Prospect Pleases: Also Includes Bonus Story of The Mountain's Son by Gloria BrandtLucie's Review:

Annora Nolan works hard, and holds tight to her faith despite the miserable circumstances in her life after the death of her parents. She is taken in by the pastor and his family, but the pastor's daughter is not happy about the situation and makes Annora's life miserable.

When Annora finds a letter from a widower in Wyoming, with two daughters, who is looking for a housekeeper she knows that this is her chance, and with the help of her friend, Lesley, she finds herself on the train to Cheyenne.

Lucas Brent is surprised when Annora shows up, he never got her letter, she isn't what he expected. But Annora stands up for herself and convinces him to give her a shot.

Will Annora be able to change Lucas's mind?

I like that Lucas is a good father, and even when he is very busy he always makes time for his children.

Annora quickly bonds with the girls, encouraging them to help her out, and teaching them to cook. And I liked how Annora shares her faith the family in small ways, asking to go to church and praying before meals. This is a good story but it does take a while for the characters to meet and their lives to converge.

The Mountain's Son is the bonus story in this volume , unrelated character wise it does also take place in Wyoming.

Lydia Bennet and her family move to Wyoming to open a store in a small town. Her father sees life as an adventure and encourages her to do the same, while her mother is more concerned with propriety.

Caleb Jonas is a good man, and rancher but he left his faith behind when his family died. His journey back to faith is a very important part of the story.

I also liked how Sophia, Lydia's sister get's a happy ending too.

A sweet novella, about second chances and starting fresh.

The Cowboy's Baby Bond by Linda Ford ~ Review

The Cowboy's Baby Bond (Montana Cowboys, #2)Lucie's Review:

Johnny Harding hears a baby crying in an abandoned wagon, he finds Willow and her young son stranded, so he fixes the wheel and takes them to his step-mother, Maisie, who welcomes them with open arms.

Willow is a young widow, who wants nothing more than to reunite with her sisters, and make a good life for her young son. But when she finds that her sisters aren't on the wagon train, Johnny offers to help her find them.

Will Johnny be able to help Willow find what she's looking for?

Johnny is a very kind and considerate man, willing to help out in a pinch. He shares his faith with Willow, and he goes out of his way to help her out, I liked how he made an effort to get to know Adam, even though he doesn't have much experience with babies. Adam quickly becomes attached to Johnny, and has him wrapped around his fingers.

Willow is working hard to rebuild her life, and I like that she get's her second chance and rediscovers her faith.

Overall, a great story, engaging from the beginning, and Adam is so adorable. There was a lot of good dialogue and interaction between Johnny and Willow as well as lots of humorous situations that they run into along the way. But it isn't all smooth sailing, and they need their faith to get them through. Wonderful read, that I would definitely recommend to fans of Western Romance!

An Amish Match by Jo Ann Brown ~ Review

An Amish Match (Amish Hearts, #2)Lucie's Review:

Joshua Stoltzfus has been a widower for four years, and struggles to raise his three children, so when his mother suggests that he marry again, Joshua is ready to take her advice. His mother even has someone in mind.

Rebekah Burkholder is recently widowed and has children of her own, and she is in a tight spot, she agrees to marry Joshua for her children's sake, even thought her first marriage was less than pleasant.

Will Joshua and Rebekah find their second chance at love?

I really liked Joshua and his children, he is a good man and father to his children, and he welcomes Sammy, Rebekah's son, but gives him time to accept him. Joshua's kids really like Sammy and accept him quickly as one of them.

Rebekah is very hardworking and sets to righting Joshua's home immediately. She quickly connects with Joshua's younger children, and helps provide insight into what his eldest, Timothy is going through.

Overall, this is a well written romance, and I liked how both Rebekah and Joshua both made an effort to make the best of their marriage, and give each other chances to get to know them as they are. A wonderful read with engaging characters, and a dramatic ending. Definitely a great read for fans of Amish romance!

The Reluctant Bridegroom by Shannon Farrington ~ Review

The Reluctant Bridegroom

Lucie's Review:

Henry Nash is hesitant to marry Rebekah to advance his political career, but when he is put in a tight spot, being found to be under suspicion for unwittingly aiding the enemy, marrying Rebekah may be the only way to save his reputation.

Rebekah overhears Henry taking with her father, and thinks that Henry is a man just like her father, looking out only for himself. Will Henry be able to prove her wrong and win her heart?

I like Henry, and he really did want to find something real with Rebekah, and makes many efforts to get to known Rebekah and learn her interests.

Rebekah's father is a tyrant, he makes a public show of being a family man, but in private he is emotionally and physically abusive towards Rebekah--he forces her to marry Henry, and gives her no choice in the matter.

I liked Rebekah and how she really wanted to be there for Henry's two daughters, she bonded with Kathleen right about and found out that they both really loved gardening. She struggles to connect with Grace, the baby, but perseveres and soon finds a place in her heart as well.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable read, I liked Henry and how he tries to be an honorable man, and he really wants to help others. he realizes his mistakes and is quick to repent and ask forgiveness, and he never gave up on Rebekah even when she wanted nothing to do with him. A well written story, with fantastic characters that capture the heart.

Protect and Serve by Terri Reed ~ Review

Protect and Serve (Rookie K-9 Unit #1)
Lucie's Review:
Gina Perry is a K-9 dog trainer. When Gina discovers an intruder in her home, she runs for the training center, but what she finds there is even more disconcerting.

When Shane Weston and his dog Bella find the lead dog trainer murdered, Gina is the prime suspect with both motive and opportunity, but she insists that it her brother who is the killer. When her brother comes after her, Shane is assigned to be her protector, will he be able to keep her safe from her own flesh and blood?

I liked Shane from the first he is calm and reasonable, and he talks Gina out of running away. Shane is very responsible and takes his job seriously, he sees Gina in need and offers to help her. I also like how he is very serious about his beliefs and shares his faith with Gina, helping her reconnect with hers.

Overall, a fantastic read, with plenty of mystery and excitement along the way. I liked the way that this book really introduced me to so many new characters, and mysteries yet to be solved!

Baby Wren and the Great Gift by Sally Lloyd-Jones and illustrated by Jen Corace ~ Review

Baby Wren and the Great GiftMy Review:

Baby Wren sees the other animals as they go about their way, swimming, diving, and cartwheeling along--but little Wren can't do those things. Will Baby Wren find her gift?

A lovely read, with stunning water color illustrations of God's creation. Little Wren sees her fellow creatures, finding joy in their unique talents, and longs to join them, but she doesn't have fins to swim or the right appendages for climbing. Yet she keeps looking, and finds joy in the beauty of the world God created.

Overall, a lovely poem that explores how we are each created with different gifts and abilities, each beautiful in their own way, and definitely not the same! And the lovely illustrations compliment the story perfectly. A lovely and heart warming read.

Her Brother's Keeper (Amish Secrets, #1)Lucie's Review:

Charlotte is a woman out for revenge, and she wants answers to why her brother Ethan did what he did. So she dons Amish clothing, and pretends to a distant cousin of the Kings, named Mary, determined to get revenge on the Amish for the death of her brother.

Will revenge bring the peace that Charlotte seeks?

Lena Kin welcomes Mary Charlotte with open arms, and doesn't find fault with her for not being very Amish. Lena is hoping that Mary Charlotte will be able to help her daughter Hannah get back into life after the loss of her fiance.

I really liked Ryan, he was Ethan's best friend, and he is immediately suspicious of Mary Charlotte and figures out what she is up to. But he reaches out to her and encourages her to listen to the Kings and to consider God's role in her life.

This is a well written book, easy to read, with a very interesting plot. It contains a lot of good dialog, and explores many family relations, while also tackling some tough questions. A great read about Charlotte as she learns the secrets of her brother's past, and finds friends, and a new intriguing faith.
